    Hi Everyone

    I’m currently using the Joomla Who’s Online module:

    “Who’s Online
    We have 285 guests and 2 members online”

    Does anyone know what ‘guests’ actually means? Does this include bots? Also, are there any 3rd party ‘Who’s Online’ modules that give more info in Admin (IP addy’s, etc.)?

    I’ve searched around on the Joomla.org site but couldn’t find any info about this.

    Any help greatly appreciated!

    Thanks
    Chris

    I think guests would include any IPs not logged in to your webpage so bots will count towards it.

    for other modules, you would probably want to be looking at site stats extensions
    http://extensions.joomla.org/component/option,com_mtree/task,listcats/cat_id,1900/Itemid,35/

    for me, i just use the AWSTATS from my webhosting control panel… it provides very comprehensive information on my site and visitors

    Hi jsliao

    Thanks for that, I figured as much.

    I’m also using awstats for vistors, countries, etc., plus Google analytics. It’s just that analytics, awstats, who’s online’ don’t seem to match up!

    Personally, I tend to trust awstats as I can see the actual pages visited and how many were read!

    Thanks

    well quest one thing is that any visitor is counted as guest, i do not know if bots count too.

    i actually has heard that the CB has that option to control online users in a more efficient way, but right now i am still only knowing CB so if i found something i will tell you

    I use JoomlaWatch. It’s a free (ajax) component and gives a wealth of info including IP, Referral page, Search terms, Country, Browser, Registered Users, Etc.

    It’s also real time, so you actually see the stats pages update as links are clicked on the front end.

    It has a daily updated bots list and separates real visitors from bots.

    You can also ban users by IP addresses and display a custom message to banned users.

    Ohh and it has a front end module too that can display number of visits today, this week, this month and lists visitor counrty ranks.

    Thanks Scotty. Looks interesting. It appears to give the same info as Awstats, but Awstats isn’t real time, nor is it accessible from Joomla Admin panel. I’ll take a look!

    I thought of using joomlawatch, but as it is realtime, does it compromize your sites resources and use up bandwidth

    have you had any speed issues

    Does it compromize your sites resources and use up bandwidth? – Not that I have ever noticed.

    Have you had any speed issues? – No.

    Hi Scotty

    Downloading now, thanks.

    It appears if you don’t make a donation, then you get 3rd party ads in the component panel in Admin.

    Mind you, if it works, I’ll happily pay for the 14 euros ad-free licence!

    Cheers

    Very impressed. A really neat extension.

    My only complaint is the fact that you have to have the module published on the front end of the site otherwise it stops the stats. Shame, as I liked my front page just the way it was!

    I’ll customise it down to a few country flags and leave it at that I think!

    Thanks again Scotty

    Do you have any idea which CSS file I should edit to reduce the point size of the country list?

    It doesn’t really match the rest of my site:

    Also, can I get to the list of countries anywhere? I’d like to make them all Upper and Lower rather than CAPS!

    Thanks
    Chris

    I did post this on the JoomlaWatch forum, but can’t pretend that I understand the response! If somebody could clarify for me:

    Hi, Just use the style class joomlawatch

    Eg:
    <h3 class=’joomlawatch’>Countries</h3>

    and then
    .joomlawatch {
    … some styling
    }
    .joomlawatch TD {
    color: blue;

    }

    This way you can also make the first letter capitalized by css and pseudo-styles. But if you still want to find list of the countries,it’s in a database – table jos_joomlawatch_cc2c

    Can I just add some lines into the template css file or something?

    Thanks
    Chris

    questbg;94073My only complaint is the fact that you have to have the module published on the front end of the site otherwise it stops the stats.

    Publish it to your footer and make the image a 1x1px transparent image. No one will ever notice.

    The backend add is not much of a hindrance really. It’s just a banner. Although I did pay the donation but it was more because I thought it was a gread mod than to have the ad removed. By the way the url you supply will be listed on the Joomlawatch site which has a pagerank of 8 so this will help your SEPR.

    Answer to your other question coming soon….
