October 15, 2008 at 5:20 pm #134453Im hoping someone could help me with this as I have been trying to get help elsewhere and no one seems to be able to thus far.
The problem im having is im trying to put the header of the ja_corona template im using into the overall_header.html of phpBB or getting it to show by any other means at the top of my forum.
I have thus far made a template as best I can to match the joomla template im using but I just can’t get the header (Menu at the top) working.Now I don’t know my backside from my elbow when it comes to HTML and I hardly know much about Joomla at present, it’s certainly a learning curve, but a good one. I have been trying to do this myself for over a week and I just cannot get it to work at all.
Here is my original overall_header.html:
–
Here is the JA_Corona header that I wish to put at the top of my phpBB forum:
Now me knowing nothing about HTML… Tried to add the two together by putting it in the <head> part and I came up with this:
–
Here is a picture of the outcome:
As you can see it messes up the whole page. The text, fonts and spacing, plus the header doesn’t show any of the menu’s.
I’ve been trying many different things but I still can’t seem to get a resolution or find where im going wrong or what I need to be doing.
If I can’t get this working then im going to have to end up changing templates to get that integrated look, but I think corona is one of the neatest ones out there.
I really hope someone can help me on this as I can’t seem to get any help anywhere else.

October 15, 2008 at 7:17 pm #275467I think you will be way better of placing the phpbb forum in a wrapper.
You will get the same result as they did here with google:
http://template15.joomlart.com/ja_corona/index.php?option=com_wrapper&view=wrapper&Itemid=55Should save you alot of customising

October 15, 2008 at 7:28 pm #275469What i would have done was to used this menu here for the forum, where you manually add the links and style you need: http://www.phatfusion.net/imagemenu/
Easier for you to get the result you want.

October 15, 2008 at 7:41 pm #275472Thank you for the replies, they are appreciated.
I did look into that as a second option, but I heard mostly bad things in regards to iFrames and wanted to avoid them though it is a hell of alot simpler.
There seems to be some issues with it though, mainly, you cannot link into the forum, if you do then it loads the forum by itself and not within the ja_corona wrapper. It is also possible to load the forum by itself which I did not want. Plus it seems when you click external links, they load in the iFrame and not in a seperate window.I know there is a fix for the external links but I don’t think there is one for the linking internal.
I also looked into this when I searched for a similar issue on here as you have advised someone else to go down the same path, though after downloading it and looking through it, I still seem to be in the same boat as before as how to impliment it. It’s the coding side which I don’t understand myself.
It surely must be possible to set it up but it seems like alot of coding and alot of hassle for someone to tackle in regards to the link your provided and what I was trying to do.

October 17, 2008 at 7:43 am #275824Im afraid I didn’t, i’ve asked for help all over the place on this and it seems it’s just too big a job for someone to do unless they were paid of course.
I had to resort to using a wrapper which includes it’s own set of problems it seems, though it integrates the forum straight off.

I can see it clearly fits in your site there.
So how did you set the wrapper so perfectly like that!?I may opt for that I think.
AND/OR
Did you get someone to do the job if paid!?
If so how much does he/she wanna snap!? I’m a kind curious lolvwrmic Friendvwrmic

October 17, 2008 at 8:16 am #275831Well i’ll be honest I am rubbish with code it’s certainly not my field, but I know how to do certain things in phpBB like change template width’s and such.
Im not sure about vBulletin but in phpbb all I did was get a template I liked then in the common.css and colours.css removed the background image codes to stop them showing, then I measured in photoshop the gap I had in the joomla template and fixed the width of phpBB to be set so it would fit perfectly.
Because I made it fit straight off, I removed the scroll bars in the wrapper options and hit the option for the height to auto fit. Was fairly simple looking at it.I didn’t get anyone to do it for me, I started on this on wednesday setting it up, it’s mostly done now apart from some content ad cleaning things up oh and trying to make it a little unique.
Im not very good with Joomla as it’s all new to me, but I mostly get things done myself either by asking or google searching. Just need quite a bit of time to do it. 😀

October 17, 2008 at 9:10 am #275843I have a solution that might help you, i had a problem with a site that i wanted to place within a wrapper but needed to pass trough variabled to it.
What i found is this:
1. Make a backup of the file /components/com_wrapper/wrapper.php
2. Open the file in an editor and go to line 35.
3. Search for this text: $url = $params->def( ‘url’, ” );
4. Insert the following block AFTER the line:foreach ($_GET as $key => $value) {
if ($key<>”option” && $key<>”Itemid”) {
$url.=(strpos($url,”?”)) ? “&” : “?”;
$url.=”$key=$value”;
}
}
5. Save the file and test the solution in your browser.This is for example a link to a special phpBB topic:
http://www.yourdomain.com/index.php?opt … 110&t=3022
the corresponding URL in the Wrapper configuration is:
http://www.yourdomain.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php
the additional parameter “t” is passed to phpBB:
http://www.yourdomain.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=3022I have tested this with phpbb and now i can link to specific topics and other things trough the wrapper! In combination with the fix for external links you should be sorted.

October 17, 2008 at 9:18 am #275845Thanks Bennitos though that didn’t seem to do anything at all, It would be really good if it was possible to link into the wrapper, it would make life alot easier that’s for sure.
Mine was around line 55 pasted it in exactly as you said, and it hasn’t made any difference?

October 17, 2008 at 9:31 am #275846ok so you adjusted the file.
What i did after is:
Create a menu item wich points to the wrapper. and make that wrapper point to the main phpbb site for example http://www.test.nl/phpbb.
Then look at what the direct link is to that wrapper.for example:
http://www.test.nl/index.php?option=com_wrapper&view=wrapper&Itemid=80That link above will bring you trough the main wrapper but if you want to point to somethin the wrapper add it behind it and it will be passed trough like:
http://www.test.nl/index.php?option=com_wrapper&view=wrapper&Itemid=80&t=404
the result will be http://www.test.nl/phpbbt=404

October 17, 2008 at 9:44 am #275849I think I understand what you mean, I figured you could point to an item by forcing it through a wrapper when making a new link for instance on the mainmenu, What I was hoping was when you right click a link in the wrapper for instance and say “open in new tab” it would auto force it into the wrapper and not just by itself.

October 17, 2008 at 9:53 am #275851Yes sorry, I should of explained what I meant by that statement. It’s a real shame that you can’t use the code of the wrapper and just attach it to any web address, I wonder if that could be done without having to go through the admin panel on Joomla, again probably another hard coding job. :laugh:
