I’ve stumbled upon a nasty error that crashed my site. It happened soon after I started playing around with the ja-slider module. At first i had it working OK, but then changed with catagories for it to index. And as soon I changed it, I was left with this error whenever I tried to load the site:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘<‘ in /home/macout/public_html/index.php on line 91

Please advise. Thanks in advance 🙂

    Cheers,
    Josh

nevermind, fix found (shown below just in case anyone else might find it useful):

Just found the file in the Joomla 1.5 package. It’s the index.php in the root directory. Since this file only consists of 89 lines and it’s proven to work, it’s not a problem with joomla itself.

Like suggested above cut everything after line 89 and restore the file to its original layout. If unsure just load the latest Joomla 1.5 installation and take the included “index.php” file. Btw. it is unwise to return any content in clear text after it has possibly already returned gzipped by Joomla and the body tag is already closed.

Well, this story isn’t quite old news yet. More I looked, more problems I found. After conversing with my host tech support, this is the advice they have provided:
You need to make sure the developer keeps those Joomla installs up to date. The issue is almost certainly injected code via security holes in Joomla.

Hrmm… I installed from the latest zeolite II install package. What, if anything, do I need to update there to plug up any security issues?

    Dear macout!

As you known, joomla is great cms system, all bug of securities are fixed by joomla’s developers. i think that you only uses special characters for password and hide the admininistrator URL enough to security :), you try to find plugin to do this in The JED http://extensions.joomla.org/.

    Good luck
