Goodday. I have many menu items and they take three rows in the mainnav position. Some of the menu items have sub-items. So I am looking at having a submenu as the dropline menus do not work with all the menu items that I have.

Hi,

You can create a new module position below the mainnav by folowing below tutorial:
http://www.joomlart.com/forums/topic/how-to-create-a-new-module-position-6/
Then create Menu modules at new position & assign these Menu modules to each menu items you want to display.
Try to style your own css to fit with other module positions.
