    Hi,

The page isn’t always loading properly on open – it’d seem that the CSS isn’t being downloaded quickly enough. I’ve attached a screenshot below. Can anyone help as to why this is, or how do I set the CSS files to be the first to download from the server?

Please have a look at http://www.sarahshorthouseceramics.co.uk

    Thanks,
    Matt

Tiyr homepage is slow before it loads many big images. I helped to compress css, js and cache on the template, hope to see certain improvement then, see the screenshot.

Actually, the site speed associates with various factors. Please consider options below to speed up your website:

+ Remove unnecessary White Space in HTML
    + Minify Javascript and CSS
+ Reduce requests by combining HTML, CSS, and Javascript
+ Optimize all your images – Most if not all should be at least below 10kb
    – Crop the white space using Photoshop
    – Use PNG8 Files or GIF files rather than Jpegs and don’t use transparency
    – Make images the size you want rather than resizing them in the editor
+ Uninstall any components/modules/plugins that you don’t actually use
+ Use Gzip Compression to Reduce HTML Size
+ Enable Caching as much as possible (page caching, view caching, module caching)

Thanks for your reply – I understand that there’s a few large images, but theses need to be there for image clarity on retina displays… Is there any way to force the CSS file to load before the images? As the actual page load speed is less important – it’s just important that the CSS is recognised first…

I already had CSS joined/minified/compressed I think, and still had the issue.

What cache settings can I realistically use? New projects will only be added to the site now and again…?

    Thanks,
    Matt

    Hi,

It actually seems to be loading slower now – I just tried to load it again now (on a page with no pictures really) “…/about” and I still got the attached…

    Any other ideas?

    Thanks,
    Matt

    Hi Matt,

I see the images on your home have big size, you can try to resize them to small or change them to .png image. I did help you to set Cache page on your site, see the screenshot

    Hi,

Thanks for that – I’ve had to turn off the caching, as when I’m updating portfolio / item text it’s not appearing straight away on the front end – how long is the cache set for, and how quickly would the cache refresh?

I’ve shrunk the image size etc and I’m still having the same problem.

On http://tools.pingdom.com/fpt the request sent for template.css, layout-tablet.css, layout-mobile.css etc is sent after the request for any images. How can I enforce that the .css files are loaded first/sooner? See attached:

    Thanks again,
    Matt

Or maybe it needs to load them last? As it stands, the template.css, layout-tablet.css, layout-mobile.css files aren’t completely loaded (or are overwritten?) once the page has ‘finished’ loading. I’m still getting the page loading without the correct styling :((

If you empty the browser cache and load the homepage, you will see what I mean (it only happens first time round, once refresh has been pressed it doesn’t happen again until the cache is emptied again)… Basically the website loads incorrectly for all first-time users… far from ideal!

    Thanks!

As the home page on your site uses Slideshow module with big images and many images are loaded on the homepage which causes your site to load slowly first time.

Our template have been supported with cache page, compress css and js.

I tried to assist you, however honestly, I am sorry for not being of much help under this case as slow loading on website relates to many factors: server, bandwidth, internet… and data on your site.

You’ve certainly pointed me in the right direction, so thanks for all your help… I’ve found a solution now… It worked if the CSS was joined and minified, but not compressed…

    Thanks again,
    Matt
