Hi guys, I have created a new simple layout (called ipad-push) in Mesolite II and used it for one article that will be displayed via a embedded web view in and iPad ebook. I copied some of the css and php files and tweaked these to alter column width and font size etc. I also added the article as a menu item and then turned off all enabled modules for the menu item.
When I view the page in Safari on the iPad (see safari-view image attached) it displays large, clean and with all my changes present but when I display the same article in the web view (see web-view image attached) of the ebook it shows the menu, footer bar etc and the column width and font changes are missing.
Any idea why this is occurring? Or how I could fix it?
Cheers,
Philip

February 23, 2011 at 11:25 pm #378168What I believe is happening here is that the layout is being detected as a mobile device for you nice view. When you switch to web view the page is being viewed with the standard agent. Unless you want that view on all platforms then I think there is not a lot you can do about it (but don’t quote me on that).

February 23, 2011 at 11:54 pm #378177Yes this is what I thought was happening. Do you think that one solution maybe for me to run the content that I am pushing to the web view in the ipad as a separate joomla instal in a sub domain? This seems rather more complex than I was hoping.

February 24, 2011 at 12:21 am #378181Okay I just switched the layout of the whole site from default to the clean ipad-push layout I created to display the web view pages. The whole site now displays on both desktop safari and ipad safai with all the layout modifications but when the web view in the ebook is refreshed it still includes manu, shopping cart and footer areas and the text size and column width changes are not present.
This makes me think that the decision about how to display is being made by code or a routine which is not supported in the embeded web view in the ebook.
Not sure if my sub-demain idea listed in the previous post would help with this.
Cheers,
Philip

February 24, 2011 at 1:18 am #378187Is it only certain pages you want to serve in this view? If that is the case you can use a custom profile and layout just for those pages.

February 24, 2011 at 2:45 am #378195Yes just a few pages. I have already created a custome Layout profile and have locked the itemid to the new layout profile in the templayte manager – is this what you were asking?
The more I look into it the more I think it is a problem with the embeded web viewer in the e-book.

Philip
