    Hi Everyone

I would like to take the standard Log In or Register module here:

    and change it to this:

First of all, is this possible? Secondly, where to do this?

I know I can change the title to ‘Newsletter’ simply by renaming the module, but which bit of code for the rest.

    Many Thanks
    Chris

if you are using a newsletter component from the extensions directory, they come with sign up boxes that do what you want, and the user will not have to log into your site.

to do it your way, they must be getting the login box in the next step when they click on create an account

I would make a custom html module with the text and graphic
then I would put the login box in a content item
then I would make the create an account link to the content item with the login box.

but do you really want them to login to the site and become registered members, or do you really want to get their email address, have it automatically added to the email list so you can send them newsletters

If you purely want to have a newsletter, and login is not needed like mj said then i would recommend this module, used it in the past without any problems:

    http://extensions.joomla.org/component/option,com_mtree/task,viewlink/link_id,2346/Itemid,35/

even the solutions given for bennitos and mj are good it would be and interesting task try to tweak the login form this way

shertmann, even if questbg did tweak the login mod, it still would not be connected to an email newsletter program, its still just a login

    Hi Everyone

Thanks for the interesting suggestions. I must admit, I never really thought this through, this was just on a client brief!

Basically, he wants to gather e-mail addresses to send monthly newsletters. There would be no point ‘logging in’ to the site as there would be no benefit to being a ‘member’.

So basically, I need a component that will gather and store names and e-mail addresses and then some kind of ‘newsletter’ component that would mail all the people who signed up (I think!?).

I’ll check out the extension suggested by bennitos, if not, I’ll go the custom html route suggested by mj and publish that into the same position!

If anyone has any other suggestions, I’d be happy to hear them!

    Thanks again.

If you are going to do newsletters, you may want to check into a service, most hosts limit the number of emails that can be sent to 500 or less, so if the client has a large list, they will have problems.

well you have php list that works perfectly well with joomla using phplistbridge.

why i sugest you php list? because like most of the newsleter or ezines options this one can send a one by one mail and not all at the same time. if the newsletter is not so big, and your hosting provider allows it.

in fact hostgator my personal hosting provider always sugest use that software.

in the other hand why you must use the login form or the registration for users if you have a ezine portal? because you can have content only for registered users or you can use the info given in the registration process in order to fill your ezine data.

I think I’ll probably use MassMail from JoomSuite. I’m already using another of their products on this site and this will integrate straight into it.

The product allows ‘delayed’ sending of mail in batches of smaller quantity to avoid the above problems.

    It’s also FREE!

I’ll let you know when I get it installed and how it goes!

    Thanks again
