What kind of customisation … do you have any links to sites you would like T3 to look/function like (or mock-ups)?
With ‘other areas’ do you mean genereal Joomla training (adding & editing articles, uploading images, etc.), or much deeper training (adding banners, polls, video, audio, changing sections, changing categories, etc.).
Do you have domain name, hosting, etc., in place and does hosting support latest version of Joomla?
Without knowing the ‘end result’ it’s very difficult to comment!
