Is there a way to exclude some items from the top menu? I noticed that every item on the top menu is copied from the main menu, however Is there a way to hand pick and choose items which should be displayed on the top menu?

Then you just add the items you wanna have there or unpublish the one you dont want there.
Go to joomla adminpanel and Menu> Main Menu and there you can pick what to show or not to show, add new items etc.

Menalto,

I think this is the only way, I was going to have Main Menu (left) with let’s say 7 items, and the top menu with only 3 items.

In this case I’ll create the main menu (unpublished) with 3 items to be included in the top position, and another menu as the main menu (left) with 7 items.
