September 17, 2009 at 4:53 pm #144301The submenu in each section appears instantenously when the mouse pointer hovers over a given Section, and shows as a highlighted subsection when a given section is actually chosen.
One exception is the submenu under “Home”. It takes ‘so long” to load, and is the last to load in the Homepage. Because the space for the submenu has not been alloted yet, at this stage, the delay in the loading of the submenu under “Home” results in a jerky page presentation — further accentuating the slow load of the Homepage.
Even if a page, after first load, was already cached, somehow going back to the “Home” still cause a slow load because of the submenu under “Home”. Thus, the “jerky page effect” remains. I should note also that this happens even in a Homepage where most of the slow loading features have been removed (unpublished), replaced with other choices or placed in inner pages.
In Teline II, even if there are submenus placed under “Home”, it is treated more like the submenus in other Sections. Can this modification be done also in Teline III? Is there a way to decouple the submenu under “Home”? And make it appear only when the mouse pointer hovers over “Home”, and appears only if “Home” is chosen specifically?
This may avoid or at least mitigate the slow page loading and consequent jerky appearance.
Thanks in advance.
Cornelio

September 17, 2009 at 6:36 pm #317653The ‘jerky’ appearance is a result of JavaScript being applied.
What you are seeking is possible but not sure how to go about it really. I’ll look into it.

Thanks Scotty,
I think I was able to identify the general javascript:
<script language="javascript" type="text/javascript" src="<?php echo $this->templateurl(); ?>/js/ja.ddmod.js"></script>
<script language="javascript" type="text/javascript" src="<?php echo $this->templateurl(); ?>/js/ja.script.js"></script>
that defines the submenu, in the head.php.
<blockquote>templates => teline-iii => layouts => blocks => head.php </blockquote>
But, javascript is beyond me. I have not looked at the js directory yet.

N.B. If I have to guess, one solution is to designate a flexible height position for the horizontal submenu — to avoid the “jerky effect”. However, this will not solve the issue why it takes so long the submenu to appear, once a Section or Home is clicked. It happens in inner pages also, but obviously, it is more critical in teh Homepage. I do not recall observing such delay in Teline II.
One possibility that I am thinking of is just to remove all those submenu linked to Home, if the process cannot be made faster. Edit: Does not work, it is only replaced with an black band — if the submenu links were unpublished.
