For the menu: in quickstart, we provide package for multilingual site so it will contain a Default menu for website and Menu for each language. As you can see the menu with Star is default menu item, for English, when you click the star the flag of EN will show (instead of yellow star), which means that it’ll be the default item for English. It’s default behavior of multilingual site in Joomla so there is not issue here.
About the content on homepage, templates built with T3 framework will have option called "Skip component content". This will be helpful when you create landing page which contains special blocks only and you don’t want to show component content. When you add menu item of any page in this option, the content will not show on that page. Hence if you want to show content on homepage, pls remove home menu item in this option.
