Af Course! both are used for content management system. But i generally use WP for blogging. Now i am started using Joomla and this seems to me easier than WP. 🙂
March 3, 2010 at 11:21 am #334638I’m an avid WP fan and use it for all my sites including ecommerce. I have looked at Joomla and am looking to possibly use it on a couple of clients sites, but find it much harder to learn. I may just set up a WP site for now and then set one up on XAMPP to practice locally and go from there. This is my first visit to this forum and have found some very useful information – so maybe I will eventually get converted 🙂

I’m now quite experienced with wordpress, but totally new to Joomla. What the best way to start adding Joomla?
March 3, 2010 at 1:12 pm #334651In my view, there is a bigger learning curve involved with Joomla, especially using its advanced features and you may have to spend quite a bit of time getting to grips with it. Also, if your website is not going to be a blogging platform then Joomla may be for you.
For me though, WordPress wins all the time as I personally want something that is straightforward. Also, WordPress is search-engine friendly, further helped by some plugins. As an alternative to WP’s All in One SEO Pack I prefer to use Thesis theme as this has a strong built in SEO functionality.March 3, 2010 at 2:24 pm #334658I’m so new to Joomla and i think it’s interesting . May I know what is the advantages? 😎
March 3, 2010 at 2:55 pm #334660I am also new to this forum but have been hearing a lot about Joomla recently and have a question. I have a wordpress blog to which I want to add a forum. Would this be better done using joomla or is there a wordpress plugin to use for this.
March 3, 2010 at 3:07 pm #334662I really like Joomla and I think Joomla is able to create much better looking sites then WP. It has more options but require time to learn the way to implement them. However, SEO is a bit more complicated. I peraonally get in troubles with SEO friendly URLs if the Joomla site is more then basic installation.

March 3, 2010 at 3:59 pm #334674I guess the main difference is that WP is really easy to begin with, but once you want to expand, say, start a real business rather than a simple blog, it doesn’t have what it takes. Joomla has way more useful plugins and it just looks better.

I would like to know this as well. What is the best forum plugin for WP and what is the best forum plugin for Joomla? Can you use vbulletin (i guess that’s what it is called?) or is there a better one?
Thanks
March 4, 2010 at 7:32 am #334786I think your site will look great using wordpress, the learning curve using joomla is much greater than for WP. Joomla is a better choice if you would like to build a website that is almost anything but a blog. You will have to spend some more time with it. Another thing that you should be aware of is the fact that Joomla is in love with FAQ and contact pages. WordPress is known for being more serach engine friendly but at the other hand it also creates a lot of duplicate content. Of course you can fix those issues using All in One SEO Pack, Google XML-Sitemap, and Robots Meta.

March 4, 2010 at 8:36 am #334796It became pretty clear to me that if you are just starting making a website and such, WP is the way to go. It’s easier to use and also looks good, both visualy and from the SEO point of view. But when you want more, you should definitely try Joomla. I am also curious how exactly you use both on one site.

As a rookie can someone explain to me the major differences
I was not that happy with the SEO pack for WP, How is Joolmas?</blockquote>
I love Joomla but if you want your site rank high in search engine, WP is the excellent choice. Joomla doesn’t have SEO plugin like WP. Any SEO expert recommend WP to blog for SEO purposes.
March 4, 2010 at 11:34 pm #334926I’m guessing the coding on Joomla sites are cleaner and more compressed then WP, enhancing SEO? It just my guess, tell me if I’m wrong!

Thanks for all the info in this thread. I’m a WP user and based on what I’m reading I may try Joomla, but I agree that WP is the way to go for beginners.:)
March 8, 2010 at 11:02 am #335305Geez, This thread helped me clear a lot of doubts in my mind, even though I didn’t start it:p
Nevertheless, thanks a lot guys, everyone who posted and explained stuff over here.
