When I create a new database in MAMP sometime the collation is:

    Template Opal: latin1_swedish_ci

    Template Zinc: utf8_general_ci

How come and what I should do?

    Hi chacapamac,

    You should use utf8_general_ci.

    Thanks.

Looks this is JA common problem…and finally nobody cares. Same problem is (Database Collation latin1_swedish_ci) is with OnePage template. I already rewrited each table to utf8_general_ci, but problem still exists 🙁
Anyway, I can see this post is unanswered for 4 years, so this is the way how JA support works..

You have to change the collation(utf8_general_ci) before you install Joomla.

Open your empty database with PhpMyadmin, click on Operations and change the collation.
