I believe that I accurately followed the posted instructions for installing Teline II 1.4, yet it does not look anything like the demo. By the way, I also followed the link for the “Quickstart” tutorial but there is nothing useful there. Basically, I need help! PLEASE! I am spending too much time on something I expected and hoped would be simple, straight forward, and quick. What am I doing wrong? The web site is http://www.redwine4u.com. Please help.

You appear not to have “Published” some or all of the following:

    MODULES
    JA New Frontpage
    JA News
    Hot Topic

    PLUGINS
    JAZin

My Guess it’s the Frontpage Module…but ALL must be published.

Hope this helps. And good luck in your search.

    Hi mzaf;

I am not sure what QuickStart Tutorial you were following.

In a very early post, I noted the general mistakes that many new users commit that lead to the inability to get the Demo page, especially for Joomla 1.5.x-Teline II.

Thus, can you please tell us which QuickStart kit you followed, and please provide a more detailed accounting of how exactly t you did your QuickStart installation. Otherwise, to just state that it does not work, would not help us help you.

I am puzzled by your observation because I never missed getting the Demo page — whether the installation was Joomla 1.0x-Teline II or Joomla 1.5.x-Teline II.

Also, in regard the latest Joomla 1.5x-Teline II v1.4, as demonstrated here:

    http://joomla.bayanihan-saranay.com/jte15x550/index.php

the QuickStart Installation works for the kit.

Anyway, as I noted in another post here, I think what you did was to install Joomla 1.5.x then used the “Install” feature of Joomla 1.5.x to install the JA Teline II template, as well as the modules and plugins — I assume that was what you did.

My reason for not using the Joomla 1.5.3 -Teline II v1.4 was because I wanted a Joomla 1.5.4-Teline II v1.4 version –the latest version of Joomla 1.5.x — for security reasons.

Like you also, I got the same messed up layout — nowhere near the Demo page for Joomla1.5.x-Teline II. I did published the modules and the plugins, but that was not enough. I think something was missing in the kit. I installed a gazillion Gavick Pro templates, and I have not encountered a failure (except for my first trial), and it always worked for me.

So, maybe it is not your technique. However, because of the issues related to the installation of Joomla 1.5.x, then subsequent installation of the JA Teline II, I have always recommended that people should start with the QuickStart kit first, until they gain more experience.

I think Menalto has a QuickStart kit, not for Teline II but for another template, but it is still one involving Joomla 1.5x

When I get a chance, I will post again my own QuickStart Installation for Joomla 1.5.x-Teline II QuickStart kit. I think I discussed my procedure already in one of my responses in the Forum, but I have no time to look for the forum thread where I did that. Thus, I decided to place them all in one site, so I can easily link them here, instead of wasting my time digging old Forum posts.

Please let me know, if you get this solved, using Menalto’s QuickStart procedure. And, please provide a detailed procedure of your QuickStart installation.

One simple error could make a lot of difference.

You know about the story of the housewife who complained that her new vacuum cleaner was not working? Her son found out it was not plugged. 🙂

    Or so the story goes.

    Hi mzaf !
You can use userguide of teline ii to config your site : http://www.joomlart.com/forums/topic/ja-teline-ii-read-me-userguide/

I did use this userguide ( http://www.joomlart.com/forums/topic/ja-teline-ii-read-me-userguide/ ) , and apparently either I missed someting (although I went over it a couple of time), or there is something missing in the user guide. Thank you so very much for you reply.

If by “publishing” the modules and plugins you referenced you mean enabling them, then i did it, as i followed the following userguide http://www.joomlart.com/forums/topic/ja-teline-ii-read-me-userguide/. How can i check to confirm if indeed they were published?

Thanks for the time you took to reply to my problem. I used the user guide on on the forum ( http://www.joomlart.com/forums/topic/ja-teline-ii-read-me-userguide/). If you have a set of instructions that i can use to resolve my problem, i would appreciate it very much. At this point i realy don’t know how to proceed. Obviously, i am new to joomla (but not to software). Thanks again.

    This might sound stupid but…..
Is it so that we can not install Teline with the normal Joomla prodecures like:
    Install the template
    Install and configure
    Modules
    Pllugins
and place them ware we like to have them like in user1, user 9, etc.
    and configure them.

    ?

That seems to be the case. Why? Shouldn’t it be so easy and straight forward that anyone can install them without a lot of hassles? At the very least – the ones who develop the templates should also create the installation procedures and actually use them as though step by step to make sure the instructions are complete and accurate. I have developed several software products for end users (who were computer illiterate) , and accurate/thorough documentation was the TOP priority. Otherwise, you get frustrated customers and a lot of wasted time for everyone concerned.

Having installed and reinstalled Teline II nearly a half dozen times for various reasons…I for one have never had any troubles as those you are mentioning.

I find Hung Dinh’s tutorial to be among the best of its kind throughout the Joomla! community.
And for that matter, Teline II is not your average template.

It is incredibly powerful…but with that power comes some growing pains for the user. It is definately NOT your normal Joomla! template which is one reason it is considered the best of it’s kind.

Having said that, I think it is INCREDIBLY important to build Teline II on a clean install. There are just too many powerful features to this template and therefore so many areas where a javascript conflict can occur if you just try to exchange a previous template install for Teline II.

Secondly, forget trying to run it in “1.5 Legacy” mode…if for no other reasons than those listed above.

    So my recommendation:
    1. Backup your database and export a copy for safe keeping and later import if necessary
    2. TOTALLY wipe out your ENTIRE current Joomla! installation (so your Joomla! root is empty)
    3. USE the QUICKSTART version of TELINE II…which already includes Joomla! 1.5.X

And you should then have no problems.

    Good luck!
    John.
