I am prepping to build a site that will enable me to have the ability to sell downloads( books and mp3). If anybody has suggestions on the best plug in for this project and any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Which shopping cart component do you plan to use with your site?

Well, that is certainly one way to go. iJoomla products are generally well received and seem to function well.

Of course, there is VirtueMart which recently released their v2.0 (J1.7 compatible) component update. I believe the core VirtueMart compoenent supports download sales – though there are also several 3rd Part extensions/plugins for VirtueMart that will allow this as well. I would think you would also want to include some kind of mp3/music (and/or video) viewer as part of your sales/marketing efforts too – right?

Personally, I do not know enough about JoomShopping or RedShop to be able to vouch for their respective capabilities and/or reliability.

Tom are these templates for the whole site or are they used as a page for purchasing. ijoomla looks as if its a total template site.

Well, VirtueMart is a component that generates it’s own pages – and various extensions you install can enhance such … though you would likely need to do some relatively minor customization to get it to look just as you like. There are also “plug-and-play” themes for VirtueMart available as well.

However, if you are most comfortable with something that you can run with right out of the box, then perhaps the iJoomla DigiStore is the way to go for you. (I’ve only ever read/seen the info pages and images on the iJoomla website – I don’t think I’ve seen an actual site using the iJoomla DigiStore component . . . . yet). 😎

Well, really …. the place I would point you is to VIRTUEMART[/url].

I am quite sure you can offer downloadable products free of charge through the configurations.

    Well, there are a variety of options . . . VirtueMart, JoomShopping, RedShop . . .

It basically comes down to what one feels one can work best with. For myself, it also comes down to the additional options available to me, such as themes, addons, analytics, etc.

For example, both YAGENDOO and POWERED BY VIRTUEMART make some pretty decent themes for VirtueMart.

    😎

I got VM2 running on a tiris on localhost but it’s hard work for an idiot like me.

    Aber Du hast Recht!

It’s all down to personal preferences and thanks to you guys @ JA, I’ve ended up knowing JoomShopping inside out! The fact that it’s got German roots is by-the-by! 🙂

(Hikashop is pretty cool too but expensive when you factor in mehrsprachige/multi-language). As long as it all works on T3 eh? :p

(Currently playing with JS and Methys 2.5 and I think it could come out better than Tiris!)
