March 17, 2007 at 1:17 am #215952I too am a fan of Fireworks, but understand people have programs they use for certain reasons may it be ease of use, familirarity, what is provided to them, etc etc.
I did down load the Trial of Photoshop to try it out….with the download comes Image Ready …
even though my PhotoShop trial is over seems as though if you do not remove the program in add/remove programs you can still use Image Ready.I know this does not solve the debate going on, but might be a way for those that do not have access to Photoshop a way to edit PSD files.

Hi Cory
Yes that may be one way, never used IR at all I always had the impression from yrs ago that it never edited images, but allowed slicing and exporting only; that is, allowed slicing in the traditional row and column manner.I was unaware you could drag a PSD in and seperate layers and shadows etc like you do in PS itself?

March 17, 2007 at 5:28 pm #216001I am not a pro with IR or PS so I am not sure of all the tricks…but here is a pic of the header and layers menu to give you an idea of the layout….

March 17, 2007 at 8:15 pm #216020Your also forgetting Adobe owns Macromedia now. I have had Photoshop a lot longer then FW. I started with PS and find FW very different then PS. Its just what you learn on. I prefer a PSD to a PNG to work with just because i am used to working with it, and most of the circle I am in have both FW and PS but use PS more. Since layered PNG is widely used, I am sure Adobe will not kill it but you must wonder if they will deappreciate it at all.

Well as a beta tester for FW9 you know my preferences, discussions on the adobe fw testers area generally get the answer that adobe wants to keep the two products seperate though the PS users in the FW forum demand more PS functions,
I think that is just a result of the familiarity you speak of. I really dont have a trouble with using PS to play with JA psds etc its mainly by the time PS loads on my AMD 3200 etc I can load FW and be 50% through what I want to do, as well as I have a greater expertise with FW

March 18, 2007 at 7:54 pm #216077I dont think anything will be solved until one software kills off the other, and even then it wont be solved since people will be using older versions of the dead software. There are people still using windows 98se like its new! I have worked with different industries from screen printing to manufacturing and have requests for final image works to be rendered in everything from psd, to png, to tif. Its all in what is being used at the production level. Of the template clubs that I know the owners of, or just have worked with are pretty much spilt between FW and PS. If there is an industry standard who makes it? If anyone the consumer…
March 23, 2007 at 6:57 pm #216402Sign me up on the Fireworks bandwagon, or at least the chance to be given an option to include the editable PNG.
Fireworks is my program of choice and I really wish it was included. I am a member at RocketTheme as well, and I must say the editable PNG’s are a great benefit.
April 8, 2007 at 2:39 am #217462FW or PS is just a simple choice.
I have a lot of years of expirience in design. And my first and only choice is PhotoShop. If u makeing some art, u will need a couple of softwares, so the best combinations are PhotoShop and Illustrator (copy-paste) 😉 That is the reason why I use PS, like other professionals.ShannonN FriendShannonN
