Two comments even if I know the JA Team will not listen…

First: decrease the memberships for Joomla templates !
Second: Give a discount to Joomla members to have the Magento templates !

PS: “i must say in the beginning the ticket system worked very well. ”

worked… but does not work anymore. The JA team is amazingly absent on these forums…

    Here is the update :

    1. Ticket system had a bug, which was found and fixed yesterday. The cron job was not working and so all the mails which were supposed to be turned to tickets were not happening. Only the tickets generated through web form were received in the ticket system.
    2. Most of the recent email sent to support@ or sales@ has not been created as ticket.

I hope that explains the displeasure.

Since, the ticket system is fixed, but now its full of tickets and it will take time to clear the backlog, it will limp back to normal in some days.

    regards

    Hung,
Great decision, I am looking forward to the new templates! I like what jbrett said about announcing “retirement of updates”…and possibly updating past templates.

    Cheers,

Hi, how many template for virtuemart do you release every year?

Is there a way to integrate your new template styles with virtuemart?

I’m only using zeolite and mesolite for virtuemart, can I extend virtuemart with your more fresh templates?

    @attilio:

Now that JoomlArt team dedicates most of its time generating templates for Magento and charges a lot for these templates, it would make no sense to release templates for Virtuemart.

What they expect you to do is to pay a first membership to get a Joomla template, and then pay a second membership to get the matching Magento template.

I mentioned weeks ago that this change should have had two obvious consequences:
    – As Joomla members have less templates, the Joomla membership fee should decrease.
    – Joomla members should have a discount to get the matching magento templates, or Joomlart should release packages including both.

    But… they never listened.

    Hi

You can in fact use Virtuemart with any Joomla template. VM comes with its own default themes ie css which controls the look of the Categories, Browse etc pages. It has to be said VM’s default themes are pretty boring. As a result JA and other template clubs tends to create their own VM themes. If you want to use one of JA’s non VM templates then simply copy one of JA’s VM themes from say Zoelite or Mesolite into your chosen template.

You can copy VM theme from:
    yoursitecomponentscom_virtuemartthemes

Once you have copied and placed it in your chosen template it should be available for use in your VM configuration.

I will try and help if you need further assistance, preferably in a more appropriate thread.

    @bennitos and Scotty

I never put the addresses of my sites at the end of my posts, but I personally find that absolutely normal. Do not you find shocking that we pay to do free advertisement for JoomlArt (As even if we bought the templates, we are supposed to let the link to their site and the mention “designed by JoomlArt”.)

I am glad that people on this forum actually provide links to their sites so that we can see real use of JoomlArt templates. It is a good source of inspiration.

Let me remove all JoomlArt links on the templates I paid for, and I may agree with you that putting a link on a forum is “free advertisement”.

For me, links on a forum are just more examples of sites and templates
And link on a paid template… forced and free advertisement for JoomlArt.

Lets remove ALL free advertisement, starting by JoomlArt :p

    Ok, I’m agree with you.
Magento templates are too expensive for an open source platform and I prefer to adapt their old virtuemart templates to new templates by now.

Thanks for this solution, I’m not agreement on fact that ja releases fresh standard templates every month except for virtuemart.
It would be sufficent to publish virtuemart templates like extensions of their new templates instead of purchasing a new licence for their magento products.

I am very disappointed at the fact that in May 2009 I renewed my developer membership for the third consecutive year with the clear understanding there would be 24 template releases over the course of my current term. Having paid in advance on the basis of the terms at the time, I feel strongly that I will not be getting what I paid for.

I was one of those who fought a very bruising battle of words here in the forum, espousing for one template per month. Rather there were twice when this issue was raised.

    History

    1st Poll late 2007

Before I stopped participating in the Joomlart forums (had an active membership), sometime in early 2008, the previous Poll by Hung whether to have one or two templates per month was in favor of one template per month.

I really did not care that much what the result was, although I was in favor of one template per month, and voted for it, as well as participated in the very hot debates. Insults were flying like flies in a pile of dung.

    News vs News Magazine Template

During my second day of membership (2 Aug 2007), I requested for a “news magazine” template, as an improvement for the orginal Teline. Nothing happened for more than five months.

Please note that I considered my payment of one year subscription ($70) was worth the cost of the original Teline.

While I have a year membership, I decided to join Gavick because with my requested “news magazine” template not happening, I thought I would look elsewhere. The Gavick News template (not a news magazine) created in Feb. 2008. I considered much better than the original Joomlart Teline.

Gavick also dangled the idea when I posted in the forum that they will consider making a news-magazine template.

Cost of subscription among Joomla Template Companies

By the way, to those who complain too much about the membership fee of Joomlart. GavickPRO has a more costly regular membership. I paid 40 pounds (after the exchange charges about US$75 at the time) for four (4) months — for one template per month. 75 pounds for one year (approximately US$110-120). At the time, RocketTheme charges about the same as Joomlart but RT only had one template per month.

Learning my lesson from Joomlart, I decided to buy only a short subscription from GavickPRO, to get the template I wanted.

I looked at the other companies, at the time. Not just my type.

    News-Magazine at last

Joomlart finally came up with a News-Magazine template in April 2008. My one year membership with Joomlart was still OK, so I got it within my subscription period. I should point out though that if my subscription period lapsed, I would have paid more than $70 for JA Teline II alone.

A blessing in disguise, I did not comeback immediately. JA Teline II has a good design but it had so many bugs, after its release in April 2008.

This is one practice that I did not like of Joomlart — releasing very buggy templates, and expecting the members to deal with the problems. Had I been one of the new users of Teline II in April 2008, I might not have been able to hold the venom spitting from my mouth.

The Joomla 1.5.x-Teline II was most problematic. The Joomla 1.0.x-Teline II was slightly more stable.

Many members realized the importance of Teline II though; so that in spite of all the bugs, members, some Moderators and JA Staff collaborated to improve Teline II.

Joomla 1.5.x-Teline II became more stable only around September-October 2008. This is the reason why Teline II had the most threads and responses because of all the problems. It was partly it was because of Joomla 1.5.x, but mostly, it was bugs in the template.

I helped quite a bit, like many members devoted in using Teline II. I am not sure if this was the reason why I got a whopping bonus in credits, when I left and came again early this year.

Thanks Hainn! I only found this out early July 2009, that it was Haiinn who gave me the whopping credits. I thought it was Hung because I got an email from him, regarding this bonanza, which baffled me because I get a feeling Hung is not one of my admirers.:)

RocketTheme came up with a true “news-magazine” in July 2008, someone who was close to RT tipped me in private. I checked, but maybe a personal preference, I like the overall layout of Teline II much better than the one created by RT Teline II looks more like a real “news magazine”, like that of New York Times, and the other news magazines online I like.

There is a purpose for sharing all these. Joomlart is getting a bad rap for some stuff that it should not, and I was one of those who defended Joomlart and some staff or moderators when I thought they were maligned but did not deserve such treatment. Having said the aforementioned, I have been one of the most vocal critics also.

    More later.

    Cornelio
