On home page ja news frontpage pulls the first “Featured News” item from each section and diplays first 170 chars. How can i apply this functionality to my other pages.

if you look at the demo site for this template and you click the “world” link you see the headline for world news. Below the main story are multiple intro stories. I would like to pull the first story from the respective categories. As it stands now it just shows all of the stories in one category and then displays the stories from the next category and so on.

does anybody know how to do this?

The easiest way for you to learn this is to install the quickstart on localhost and play around and learnthe features in the template before you add it to your live site.
