Guys,
I have a problem, that I need some help with. I checked the JA Olivine forum already and for other templates as well, but could not find a solution. I have a website with the JA Olivine template, all is fine except for the top nav menu in IE 6, IE 7 and IE 8. In all other browers it works fine, but with the IE browsers the menu gets distorted (breaking) from time to time. When I refresh the page with the distorted menu, it works fine again, but messes up again a few clicks later.I have found this post (http://www.joomlart.com/forums/topic/fireboard-on-ja-olivine-breaks-flycss-menu-messes-module-positions/) and tried some changes but to no avail.
I have done some test afterwards and it looks like it has to do with the DSL speed. Two customers had the same issues, so it has nothing to do with my computer. In the office we have a 4 mb/s subscription from one of the best providers available. The actual speed is always around 800 kb/s. I have tested on several computers and the problem occurs on each one. Now I also checked it at my house that has a 10mb/s subscription with an actual 1.3mb/s speed and there I have no problem at all, tested on a netbook and 2 year old Dell laptop.
Now the problem is that the speed we have in the office should be more then enough and I am sure that customers even have lower speeds available, so I want this to be fixed and don’t want to turn down customers. I have tried the other menu options in JA Olivia and they run fine, but I do not like them.
Please help.
Thanks,
PeterPS The picture also contains the address for the website.

looking at the screenshot it seems you browser window isn’t maximized ,hit the maximise button and then try it, also have you looked at the JA Olivine demo, does the menu break in the demo on any of the systems it dies on at your site?
Cheers ShannonN
March 25, 2009 at 8:59 am #297861Hi SnannonN,
Thanks for your post, I tried your recommendations, but maximizing the browser window still gives the same issues, I also checked the live demo of the Olivine template, but that one does not have submenus, so the problem cannot be checked.Unfortunately it did not help, but thanks for your quick reply anyways.

JA Olivine demo does have submenus go to navigation, select flycss menu and you have drop down menus activated test and let us know how you went
ShannonNMarch 25, 2009 at 9:26 am #297866Hi ShannonN,
You are right, I am sorry about that. I changed the menu in the live demo to flycss and the exact same thing happens. Please see the attached picture. Did you try to test the site yourself? Thanks,
Peter
March 26, 2009 at 3:08 pm #298257Any development on this issue?
I am experiencing menu meltdowns for both fly menus (css and moo) in IE 8. In IE7 it seems to work but I feel it is borderline funcional. As well the site is aligned to the left when it should be centered.
The live demo site is also looking pretty messed up in IE8. I think there needs to be a general fix to this template for use in IE8.
March 27, 2009 at 8:48 am #298396No not at all, I am hoping that one of the developers will reply as soon as possible. There must be more people with the same issue as the live demo has the distortion as well and I really wonder if it has anything to do with the DSL speed, perhaps the java script is the issue???
Looking forward to more help.
Thanks,

The whole thing may NOT be a template issue rather a browser issue Microsoft have made some changes to IE8 in an attempt to make it semi compliant, being a never was compliant browser they are trying to add compliance but maybe they got it wrong, while I understand your frustration, does a template maker have to have a solution to a “new” browser within weeks of it appearing. I say everyone who uses IE 8 should bombard MS with requests to provide a fix, not that it will be done but in protest and to say hey spend a bit of your billions and do it right for once, Ja will try to make a fix eventually. Where possible use FF and advise clienst microsoft cannot and will not make a compliant browser so what can you do ? 😉
March 27, 2009 at 9:43 am #298412ShannonN,
Thanks for your reply, but it is not only with IE8, I had the same issues with IE6 and IE7, so perhaps it is a browser issue, but unfortunate is that 80% of the world population is working with IE. Do not get me wrong I do not want to point a finger at anyone, just asking for help.March 27, 2009 at 6:33 pm #298549All very good points! However the fact is many browsers over the history of the internet have chosen to interpret standards as they see fit. Any web developer who has lots of experience under their belt will tell you this debate is nothing new and goes as far back to before the time of IE. I always hope there would be some sort of consolidation and one browser would reign supreme on all platforms. But nay, it seems to be going in the opposite direction with Firefox, IE, Safari and Chrome.
Let’s not forget, even the OS you are running could have a bearing on the browsers capabilities.
In the end those who claim cross browser compatibility will have to stay on top of the situation and resolve this. If not they should simply make the claim that they do not support all browsers. That’s straight forward enough.
The question here is the template is not working in various versions of IE and they clearly say they support that browser. So we could and should expect a resolution to this issue from the Joomlart team.
April 3, 2009 at 12:41 pm #299835Nobody from development has a solution? Again it is not just a IE 8 problem?
Help would be really appreciated as customers kept complaining, so I changed to different menu style, but I would really like to go back to flyss!
Many thanks,
PeterApril 3, 2009 at 6:18 pm #299881With IE 8 officially out I’m sure more and more people are going to see problems with this template.
Can Joomlart at least let us know if someone is looking into into this??? If you even plan on fixing this? If not I will go elsewhere, it’s that simple.
We are all paying customers here and expect some sort of answer either way.
Thank-you.
