July 9, 2008 at 4:31 pm #130641We may introduce the Flow list (http://www.afcomponents.com/components/flow_list/) as another option for the header area beside the current slideshow.
Do you feel is it a good option? Of cause JA will purchase the commercial component license so that you will not have to buy the license when using the flow list with your Joomla

July 9, 2008 at 4:35 pm #258813Wouldnt it be something new to add instead of that? Something similar have Rocketheme done in their replicant template(but in Mootools).

July 9, 2008 at 5:52 pm #258825I would prefer a slideshow that would be navigable, when you click on them, like bring you to the article, or category, section or whatever you want to place. The July RocketTheme magazine has this. Gavick has an equivalent, but only for the newsportal right now. The slide show is not just for viewing but as a means to discover the contents, including archive contents.
Slide show tend to slow the site though, so I am not sure.
A better option would be the “Inside New York Times” found in the middle of the New York Time online page. The best option would be for the contents there to be introduced just like the Frontpage in JA Teline II, not manually, like the Media or Photography module also in JA Teline II
It would be more like the HotTopic but Hot Topic only includes those in the category. A better one would be where any article from the site could be added or removed, much like how it is done in the JA Front Page in JAa Teline II.

July 9, 2008 at 7:46 pm #258841I like the current slideshow best but the flow list would be a nice option. Thanks for a great template.

July 10, 2008 at 12:31 am #258869Flow List seems to load very slowly on all the examples I looked at.

because multimedia takes forever to load — especially in small time hosting services where the server may be overloaded with too many customers per server. They also use a lot of bandwidth, more so if many people download them
I think that is why many professional papers do not load their front pages with too many multimedia — just the most popular and relevant for the day.

July 24, 2008 at 3:01 am #261873What really bothers me about the demo with flowlist is that when you have the cursor on that area the page won’t scroll. Very iritating.
July 24, 2008 at 4:48 am #261908Th flowlist is a great tool and a good added feature for this template and to incorporate in other joomlart templates. I use it and have received wonderful reviews from my users.

July 27, 2008 at 4:53 am #262526The flowlist is quite nice, especially since it automatically loads article images and links them to their article.
How are the images assigned? It appears the last image in the article is the one that will appear in Flowlist. It wouuld be better to select the first image, or to allow some control over which image is selected.
I also see a lot of distortion/degraded image quality in my flowlist images.

July 28, 2008 at 12:37 am #262612My thoughts…
I think this effect will have a short shelf life as the new Adobe Acrobat (9) has the same thing standard in PDF portfolios. I think “magic” should be made on a website. But if the average person can do it in a PDF, no less, I really think its facination will be shortlived. So while it is a cool look today, this time next year it will be old hat, I’m afraid.
Due to its visual size (large amount of real estate) and limited functionality…(it rotates, you click and you’re gone…) …
Perhaps if you could rotate it, click on it and you’d get a fly out that included a multipage catalog or a playable list of songs inside the CD or video…then perhaps it might be able to keep it’s “cool” a little longer. As it stands. It’s neat to play with the first few times…after that it just gets in the way of the rest of your website.
Again, just my thoughts.
