I’m trying to figure out how to do some simple color changes with the Photoshop sources for JA Utahia but it’s difficult to figure out exactly the layers to change in each of these. Since it seems every color variation is in each file, is there a standard pattern to these (e.g. the first 5 layers are for default, the next 5 are for hot, etc)?

    Thanks,

    Tim

    HI Tim
from memory there are folders in the main psd labeled hot, fresh etc
all the necessary stuff for each theme should be within each folder, there will be common elements outside the theme which is clear enough?

You are correct about the separate folders in the theme files but the Photoshop source documents have every color combination in a bunch of layers. Instead of trial and error to find which layers apply only to the “Hot” color choice, I was wondering if there was a simple readme-type document that explains which layers go with each color. It would save a ton of time getting my color replacement done.

    Thanks for your reply, Shannon.

    HI Tim
Yes I hear what you are saying, but I think it would be difficult to write a glossary? of layers/colours that would be usable? I mean I’d rather look through 40 layers and see what is what, than have to toggle between a (or print a 40 page) guide and do the read this, toggle to screen, see this approach etc ?

I know it is complex and time consuming, and I see the designers are REALLY experts in Photoshop and often forget us mere mortals are not 🙂

There is a need for the graphic designers to maybe look at producing more separate psds rather than lump it all into one major psd .

I completely agree, Shannon. Separate folders for each color option with the layered Photoshop files is exactly what I am looking for here. Hopefully the designers read this board 😉

They do look here at times and will discuss this request I’m sure in the meantime I may get round to trying to separate some stuff into smaller pieces but college and exams beckon so it may be a while before it actually happens

JoomlArt designer team will care about this problem. 😀 Thanks for great suggestion.

I am most likely a bit more “used to” PS than the rest of you but I have no problem with 20-30 layers in a psd file. You can right click on top of the PSD file in order to also select “the closest” layers you want to view. Then it will show you the name of this layer and also enable you to select this layer.

Naturally, designers could perhaps label the layers even better. The problem sometimes is that layers need to be in a specific order to be showing the output correctly. In other words, a layer that should be above all others cannot be placed “within” the “Hot” folder.

Either way, yes, there could perhaps be a way of adding seperate files. My only concern about this would be the designers limited time. They have only 15 days to create “awesome” templates and the more time taken away from the creative process the lower the quality on the templates ( at least I am worried about that )

Again, my 5 cents on this

Another take on this is …. are the designers being over the top with there approach looking at the Senicio main psd, i see no need for half the graphic elements to be in a separate layer I’d prefer to see all the flowers or grasses or balloons GROUPED as one common layer, makes it easier to add delete etc, we all know how to ungroup layered items if we need to drop 1 or 2 things etc

    Just another point from me
