    Dear friends:

    We have been trying to solve an issue for some time now. We are using JA University in one of our sites. In specific circumstances (not all), drop down boxes are too narrow to display the choices. For example, we have seen this behavior when attempting to edit the publication status of an article from the front end (we are using Joomla 3.1). We attach a screenshot, and point out that the publication “status” was selected. The line on the left is what is supposed to be the dropdown box.

    The behavior appears when using third party extensions also. Choosing another template (such as protostar) solves this issue, but it’s not practical for our use.

    I have been able to locate what I thought was the css that related this this width, in the “chosen.css” located in …media/jui/css/chosen.css. However, my modifications there (to containers like .chzn-container-single .chzn-drop) have been fruitless. It also makes no sense that other templates (like protostar) would work properly without those modifications to the chosen.css. That leads me to think this is a template specific issue.

    I have seen posts online that suggest this behavior may have something to do with jquery. See https://github.com/harvesthq/chosen/pull/1141

    I confess to not knowing enough about this to update the chosen scripts.

    Does anyone have an idea about this? I thank you in advance.

    Hi achapar,

    Thank you for your detailed description and attached snapshot. Well, i tried to rebuild the JA University 3.1.5 template with the enabled front-end editing settings on our demo site, the dropdown of selection list still displayed finely with enough options. You can see the attached snapshot for the result on my side.

    So, it seems that there has been a jQuery conflict on your website which may be caused by the installed 3rd party extensions as you mentioned. Well, if you can send me PM with your website’s credentials, maybe I will give you the better predictation and suitable solution on this issue.

    Thank you Leo. We would greatly appreciate that help. I assume that you would like administrator access backend, plus an FTP access enabled? Once you confirm, I will establish those and pm them to you. With kind regards, Al at Solia.

    Leo: I have sent you admin access AND FTP access via private message. You will actually find two. In the first, I mis-typed the password. (duh). I corrected in the second. Thanks and I will stand by…Al

    Hi achapar,

    Thank you for sending the PM with your website’s credentials. Bu, I still need your favor to moderate my given account after i confirmed the activation link. By that way, i can access the front-end editting page to check out the dropdown list issue. Here is what I got in my email:

    <blockquote>Once your email address is confirmed our moderators will be notified to continue the activation process.</blockquote>

    Let inform me as soon as possible so that i can help you to resolve the problem quickly if existing.

    I think you all is now activated. You should also have FTP and backend access. If not, please PM me and I will make any necessary adjustment. I have continued to try to figure this out, without success. You are likely right in suspecting a jquery conflict, but I have not yet developed a sense for fixing those.

    Hi achapar,

    Thank you for confirming the activated account for me. Well, actually this is a bug of the overridden front-end editing form layout in the old version of JAT3v2 plugin on Joomla 3.x, I just updated the plugin to latest version 2.6.8 and put below styles into templates/ja_university/css/template.css file:

    .edit #adminForm .tab-content {
    overflow: visible !important;
    }

    The dropdown list of front-end editing form works finely now. But, it will be better that you can check it again and confirm your result here again. Can you help me to do that ?

    You did it! I would not have been able to figure that out. How did you figure that out?

    Yes, it works fine. There is a “bullet.gif” image that appears in the wrong place on the dropdowns, but it looks to me like that is in the template.css about line 84. I will just remove the call for that image.

    I am humbled by the time you took to help us on this. As we continue to learn, we will try to do the same for others in matters within our experience. We have been developer members on Joomlart for a few years, and we deeply appreciate the generosity of others here in giving valuable time and advice.

    With kind regards,

    Al at Solia.

    Hi Al,

    As you can see that on JA University template, there is only overridden layout of front-end editing form in our JAT3v2 plugin at pluginssystemjat3jat3base-themesdefaulthtmlcom_contentform path, where we include both editing form of Joomla 2.5.x and Joomla 3.0.

    But indeed, Joomla is upgraded to version Joomla 3.1.5 while the overridden layout of JAT3v2 2.6.2 (you was using) just works on the Joomla 3.0. That is why I needed to upgrade this system plugin via JAEM component.
