This happens on Dropline Navigation when main menu items are under Home and they are clicked, a duplicate “Home” appears in the breadcrumbs.
Ex: Home > Home > somepage

in the main menu items it looks like this

    Home
    —-somepage
    —- somepage 2

I know the template just renders what joomla computes but since a drop line menu is a part of the template, I was wondering what we could do to get rid of this issue.

probably you tried to create another menu (not using the default main menu)??? If that is the case, try to make the other menu as the default one. It should work.

Or you can try this. Goto menus –> main menu –> Home —> Parameters (Components)

    –>> Section Name = ‘hide’

    Worked for me.

I have attached a screen shot of the problem. Abi – unfortunately what you suggested didnt work. I did set it to hide section name.

    How about this …

    In your “Breadcrumbs” module …

Open and edit “Module Parameters” click “No” on “Show Home”.

    Hope this helps.

Thank you for trying to help me abi. If nothing works out, thats probably what I will end up doing. But that’s not what I prefer. thats not a solution to the problem as I definately want one “home” for sure.

I think part of the problem is the location of your items. I didn’t use “home” as a place to put other links, and never had the problem. hhhmm, let me test the theory. …. OK, I added a test article under my “home” link in the main menu and sure enough when I clicked on the newly created menu link, I saw two home breadcrumbs. To further test is out, I removed the “show home” bit from breadcrumbs module. Well it solved the problem when clicking on the link under home, but it also removed the home breadcrumb when going to other pages.

so here is what i would do. Since it really isn’t an industry standard to have a homepage submenu, why not display your home page links in a right or left menu that will show only on the home page?

Hey guys, thank you for the help. As far as this problem is concerned i’d like help with respect to this Bug. At this point i am unable to take your suggestions on doing alternate things.

As far as the suggestion to have inks on side bars and having that show up only on home page is concerned that doesnt solve my issue. The links under the Home – Main navigation are not what will appear on Home page, but on all pages. thats a SUB MENU and not a menu on Home page for me.
There is a difference in both of them. And there will be a hundred different ways to position these menu buttons elsewhere. That is probably not what I am looking at. I would really be grateful if there is a solution to this bug. As far as Industry Standard goes – Why am I allowed to place sub menus under Home then? I dont think I agree about that theory.

By the way – I am aware that this is a Joomla issue and not JA issue. Just looking for possible answers here.

    Hi,
I am taking another “simple” stab at this. Maybe oversimple, but hey, sometimes the solution is just around the corner.

Question? Do you have an article with the title “home”? If so, that may be the beginning of your issue. If so, disabling “show title” may or may not effect the breadcrumbs. I am thinking it will not stop it from showing an extra “home” link.

If this is the issue, I would suggest copying and pasting everything you have in the “home” article into a new “custom html” module. In your new module, In the menu assignment, make sure only “home” is the only thing highlighted. Disable or delete the “home” article.

    Hope that helps.

By the way, I m just a user, and just making an attempt at being helpful.

Same issue for me in JA Nernine. None of the advise in this topic was useful but I was able to figure out a workaround.

    Duplicate the breadcrumb module

Set 1 copy of breadcrumb to display on HOME and subitems of HOME. In the module turn off ‘Show Home’

Set the 2nd copy of breadcrub to display on all other pages and subpages. In the module turn on ‘Show Home’

This creates a breadcrumb system that displays as it should.
