Getting the best soccer cleats is important. Not only will it determine the comfort and support a player’s feet get, but a good pair of soccer cleats can also enhance the performance of a player during a game.

Keep in mind, there are different types of cleats for different players. Most young players are unaware that positions, as well as gender should be considered. (… there is even a difference between girls’ cleats and women’s cleats!) Regardless, the things you should look for are the same for any soccer cleats.

    Functional Requirements

One of the factors that should be associated with a quality soccer cleat is the functionality and freedom of movement that it provides the player. Comfort and support is obviously important too. So the trick is to find a cleat that offers both comfort and optimal control.

Often times, the more comfort a cleat offers, the less it has to offer in flexibility. This is why the market trend today is hybrids – meaning they have the best combination possible to ensure that the player gets both aspects in one cleat.

    The Functional and Structural Attributes

During play, the internal and external attributes of a soccer cleat are very important in order to prevent the player from developing blisters, tendonitis, sprained ankles, as well as other injuries.

External Features – This is referred to as the “external last”. It is simply the way that a soccer cleat’s external parts are constructed. The 3D shape of the cleats is the design. Cleats can either be straight, semi-curved or curved. All these shapes are individually ideal to the different foot types of different players. The most comfortable for someone flat-footed or with a normal foot is the straight or semi-curves last. In contrast, the curved cleats are most comfortable for the in-toed or the high arched foot players.

Internal Features – This is referred to as the “internal last”. The foot bed of the cleats will influence the performance of the player. How it is constructed is what gives the cleat its personality as it should be able to deliver a blend of flexibility and stability.

This is the interface between the studs on the bottom of the shoe and the foot. A well-constructed internal last must offer great support for the foot type as well as the arch. In case of an internal last that provides inadequate support, it can be enhanced by using an inner-sole that is more supportive. This can minimize problems associated with problem such as plantar fasciitis.
