Will the exisiting templates work on joomla 1.6 or when you will release updates for joomla 1.6 ?

No thwy wont work, there is fundamental difference in new file structure for installs in J!16 and the old templates have to be recoded for new Joomla to recognise them.

JA team has released 4 templates for J!1.6 so far and more to come in coming weeks like they have said on their blog a week ago. Check that out
