    Hi:

We have switch to K2 from Joomla content after seven years and 15K articles. It sounds heavier than it has actually been. We still have some mix between Joomla categories and K2 items but we are on the proper path.

One of the things we have lost is “Extended Classes”. We were using them to break the regular appearance of the frontpage and the category views. After installing K2 and copy our hémérothèque to the K2 Items I can’t see the Extended Classes field in the Extra Fields, neither for the K2 Items nor for the K2 categories.

JA_Wall was installed months ago and K2 is a recent acquisition. This is probably the problem. Could you help me to solve it?

    Thank you.

    Hi jsventer,

Which version of K2 are you using? Currently, we only have this JA Wall template with K2 version updated to 2.5.7 and this template is not ready for latest version of K2 v2.6.2, we are in process of upgrading this and hope to release it soon.

    Regards.

    Hi Saguaros:

That must be the reason, of course. This is the only problem I’ve noticed so far. I can wait till your upgrade. In the meanwhile do you advice to downgrade K2 or do you think we can use it? We are using it in a rather normal way so I don’t think we will get into much additional trouble.

    Hi Javier,

Since new version of K2 component has some changes comparing with older one so I’m not sure all functions could work smoothly as current version used in this template. We are trying to check this carefullly and hope to release X-mas style for this template along with new version of K2 so it would take a little bit more time, please wait.

    Hi Saguaros:

We now have upgraded to JA_Wall 1.0.7 which appears to include support for K2 2.6.2.. Still, I can’t see extended-classes. I don’t know how to proceed. Maybe we need to modify some XML to do it. Can you give us a hint?

I believe the problem is with your K2 settings. In K2 you first need to create the extra field then assign it to a group. Then go to the K2 category and select that group name as the extra field. Only then can you see extra fields in the K2 items.

At least that is how the workflow goes. Please check and see where you went wrong.

    Hi arucardx:

The problem is not exactly with K2 extra fields. JA_Wall uses an special extra field (extended-classes) which is read by the template to modify the width an colour of the article at the category or blog view. For Joomla Content it works as an additional field in the article manager. For K2 the template handles this modifier using an special “Extra Field” and we don’t have this “special” Extra Field among our set. Creating a new extra field works smoothly, but we need the special one created and used by the template.

    Hi Javier,

You should create an extra field named Extended Classes and assign it to a group: http://easycaptures.com/fs/uploaded/758/8148425629.png like arucardx’s suggestion

    Hi Saguaros:

I didn’t read anywhere Extended Classes K2 extra-field had to be created manually. I supposed it was like I wrote to arucardx, that the installation of the template will create the extra field. I should have tried.

I have now set it up and it’s mostly ok. Curiously, double-grid articles are completely shown, instead of including the readmore link.

I suggest you should update the Insight #7 of the documentation

    Thank you and best regards:

    Javier

Hi arucardx. It looks I was completely misguided and you were giving the proper adviced. I’ve solved it as you suggested.

    Thank you very much.

Hi jsventer, actually you are not completely wrong. The field extended classes for K2 does get created automatically during installation of template, however that only applies to installation via quickstart package.

In your case, I believe you simply installed the template separately, seeing as to that you are doing the migration for a 7 years old site with 15k articles. That was what caused the confusion. Perhaps the documentation could be improved on that point indeed.
