Content is copyrightable, design elements are not. There are many sites “borrowing” desing from each other and using familiar desing (etc facebook) can give a new site some boost. IMHO.

Joomla is more powerfull but l dont think will do what ever you think, if l was you l would go for buddypress and use joomla for main site.

I search also a facebook looked template.
i use jomsocial, there is a template(for jomsocial) this
template looks how facebook.
i only need a template for joomla it look like facebook.
JA barite is very good to modify as facebook look,
but ja barite has to small modul width.
