Where to make updates for favicon on purity iii?

I updated /public_html/templates/purity_iii/favicon.ico

This works in chrome and firefox but does not work in IE8 – see attachments.

Is there another location / file to update?

please clear your cache and cookies on your browser, the fav icon will work. Please check the below screenshot of what i see in IE
