August 21, 2014 at 3:45 pm #200701I have been importing articles from globalprintmonitor.net to globalprintmonitor.org using J2xml component which works fine. However, the featured articles (as flagged in backend with yellow stars) don’t show up in the JA Featured News module unless I manually re-flag them as Featured in Articles Manager.
Why are they so shy?

August 22, 2014 at 9:36 am #546948I tried to do with J2XML component on my site. I got this error.
However, I guess this error comes from J2XML component to import the wrong data, not our module. Because, after you manually re-flag them as Featured, it will work fine. You should raise this issue to developer of J2XML component so that they could give you the best solution.
Also, our Dev team will check this problem, too.
Let me know when you get the reply from the J2XML’s developer.

August 22, 2014 at 1:54 pm #546976Helios says he is working on it 🙂 He is usually so fast to make fixes you can hold your breath 🙂 Fingers crossed!
Hey Presto (or whatever the saying is in Italian:-)
New library from Helios. lib_j2xml-14.8.239.zip See attached.
However, after testing I sent email below to Helios.
<blockquote>I trashed the previously imported articles in the destination site, and emptied trash. I reimported (Send) from source site. I cleared cache. I cleared browser (Chrome) cache. But the featured articles refuse to show their faces 🙁
They are the 3 articles in the front page slide show here: http://globalprintmonitor.net/en/
</blockquote>Maybe a vulcan mind meld is needed?
Correction: These are the articles I re-sent
MessageArticle Hally Labels gets it right for variable data traceability labels successfully imported.
Article IIJ ramps up quality with new iS print engine range successfully imported.
Article Sixth Rapida to date at DTL successfully imported.
Article Elegant beverage cups reinforce a brand and reduce the environmental impact successfully imported.
Image images/j2xml/0b/15104_460x490.jpg successfully imported.
But I don’t see them listed in globalprintmonitor.org anywhere 🙁UPDATE
I did a J2XML Export/Import instead of using the “Send” feature.
Message[/h]Article Hally Labels gets it right for variable data traceability labels successfully imported.

and they not only appeared but also turned up in the Featured News module on globalprintmonitor.org 🙂
So Export/Import works but “Send” appears to not work. BTW I installed the new library file on both sites.

August 26, 2014 at 3:41 am #547236Hi,
I checked your site and found some differences and managed to correct them for you as below :
1. In site http://globalprintmonitor.org/, the article MARK ANDY INC. ANNOUNCES COMPANY SALE should be marked as Featured.
2. The article Sixth Rapida to date at DTL is missing in http://globalprintmonitor.org/en/ so other featured articles will be used instead.
Put these matters aside, I didn’t see any problem as you can see both sites look similar.

September 5, 2014 at 1:46 pm #548467Hi Adam,
Try sending a few recent featured articles from http://globalprintmonitor.net/en/ to http://globalprintmonitor.org/en/ using the Send button (j2xml) to see that the Featured tag doesn’t trigger appearance in the JA News Featured module. Sometime the first (most recent) one is less shy 🙂 Send to “strato_GPM_ORG” with Date descending order selected.

September 19, 2014 at 11:23 am #550168I had to rebuild the server :((.
My latest test of featured articles which don’t appear in JA Featured News can be seen here. http://jat333.globalprintmonitor.net/
There is no shortage of articles flagged as featured after import, but only 2 of them are displayed.
I don’t mind having to “re-trigger” them but I can’t see how to do it except in the Articles list rather than in the Featured Articles list.
BTW: If I set the MOST READ Ja Bulletin module to show ONLY Featured articles, it too only shows the same 2 articles, but shows ALL featured if I set to SHOW Featured articles. ??
Boolean logic fail?

September 23, 2014 at 10:03 am #550497Hi Tim,
Could you please re-produce the same process but use any default Joomla! module to display featured articles or create a menu item type ‘Featured Articles’ and let me know the result ?
We need to ensure that all articles are imported via j2xml without any problem so I can continue the investigation process.

September 23, 2014 at 4:38 pm #550533Hi Adam,
If you scroll down on http://jat333.globalprintmonitor.net/ you’ll see a FEATURED NEWS module that also displays only the 2 featured articles that are visible in JA featured News module.
However, scroll up a little and see the MOST READ tab (JA Bulletin) shows the shy featured articles.

September 29, 2014 at 10:15 am #550992Hi Tim,
Thanks for the info but I visited your site and found that in module Most Read (JA Bulletin), the parameter Featured Items is set with Show, which means both normal articles and featured articles will be shown here. If you choose Show only featured articles, you will see only 2 articles in the front-end.
I have created a module Latest Featured Articles (default Joomla! Latest News module) and tried to show featured articles but got the same problem. In this case, you might want to contact j2xml developer for better assistance.

September 30, 2014 at 2:52 pm #551188Hi Adam,
I’ve created a new module (Core Joomla) NEWS FLASH: LATEST In this module there is no option to show/not show Featured articles. You’ll see that there are several of the “Shy Featured” articles displayed. So why do the shy articles display in core modules but not in JA modules?
See http://jat333.globalprintmonitor.net/
Example: SCREEN ANNOUNCES TOTAL SOLUTION FOR LABEL PRINTING FROM DATA INPUT TO FINISHING
Tim
Another issue. Why do core Joomla modules, such as Latest News, reflect the language flag setting but JA modules do not?
For example, I can’t use JA Bulletin to show latest posts by language because articles of all languages are displayed regardless of flag setting. But core joomla Latest News does display only the articles in language of the set flag.
You can see the language issue here on this Joomla 3.3.5 test site: http://gpmnews.com/en/
BTW. How do I delete the incorrectly attached thumbs below?

October 2, 2014 at 4:52 am #551479Hi Tim,
1. You couldn’t see any option to show / hide featured articles in default Newsflash module because that module doesn’t have such feature.
2. As stated in my previous reply, if you choose Latest News module instead (this module does have option to show / hide featured articles) and choose to display “Featured articles only“, not just “Show“, you won’t see updated article there. But if you option “Show” (which means both featured and not featured articles will be shown), you will see updated articles there.
In short, if you import article via J2XML, featured articles are shown in the back-end with star icon but they won’t be recognized as featured, just normal article.
3. About your last question : “Why do core Joomla modules, such as Latest News, reflect the language flag setting but JA modules do not?”
Please note that this is not a built-in Joomla! feature, it comes from Advanced Module Manager component so of course it should at least works fine with default Joomla! module. I will check for any compatibility problem between our modules and Advanced Module Manager component, please stay tuned.
If you want to remove incorrect attachment files, you can choose to edit your post >>> go to Advanced mode and remove them.

October 4, 2014 at 12:39 pm #551798The JA Bulletin module on the Joomlart site demo of Teline IV-t3 shows the same behaviour in that it doesn’t reflect a language flag change. It shows the same articles in both languages regardless of which flag is selected.
Summary:
http://jat333.globalprintmonitor.net/
- The Joomlart modules do not react to the 2 language flags and do not show shy Featured articles imported by j2xml when set to Featured Only, but do if set to Show.
- The Core Joomla module does react to the 2 language flags and shows “shy” Featured articles. imported by j2xml.
- Nonumber Advanced Module Manager is not installed.
Update:
For comparison I installed Simplyiy Your Web’s “Latest News Enhanced” module. It too ignores the “shy” Featured articles but it does respond to the language flag setting. It can be found at bottom of masscol (masscol 2). It is set to show Featured Only. Why does JA Bulletin (and other JA modules) not behave similarly wrt languages?
