My first ever-joomla site, still in a sub-directory and about 60% completed. Some of the links are not working, as I have turned off Open SEF which is having issues with the CB. And I’m still on a shared hosting server.
Here are some of the stats:
joomla version: 1.0.12
components/features:
Community Builder
Mosets tree for the links directory
ijoomla magazine and news portal: soon for the news section and interviews (I plan to use the teline temp)
jreviews: soon for film ratingsI would like fellow web designers and some of the club’s experts to help me improve on its functionality and features.
the site is:
http://themovie-fanatic.com/v1
Thanks!

May 9, 2007 at 6:18 pm #219809Looking good!!
One thing, the scroller ( header ) is a bit fast for me. I would like to be able to read the text. Either that or less text, so I can finish reading.. 🙂
May 9, 2007 at 7:27 pm #219813Thanks, yeah I got the same feedback from 3 other viewers. I’ll have to edit the images and reduce the text.
any ideas which SEF comp I can use that will work together with CB?
May 20, 2007 at 8:30 pm #220482Use the joomla core sef. I works much better than Open Sef.

Thanks a lot!
This is my first joomla site and I encountered too many problems, I almost decided not to pursue and continue using joomla for all the issues I had. I hope that listing them down here would allow newbies like me to realize some important points, which I missed and apparently ignored, which should not have been the case:
1. I did not truly read the joomla manual, in details, hence I encountered problems which should not have been there in the first place. It cost me money and time.
2. Joomla with its bandwidth requirements, I did not start consider the type of hosting, hence I encountered problems in the launching. I am now being hosted with:
15GB Space, 300GB Bandwidth
I went first to a so-called ‘great joomla hosting’ and they trully suck. I have to shell out $50 for each support ticket. Don’t ever bother considering a host that offer $5.95 per month!!!
Go for a realistic hosting package that allow you complete control, and ask for feedbacks from other members who have joomla sites hosted by reputable companies.
3. Use joomlart templates! I am biased but I have reasons. I like the templates here and as you can see, the layout is nice. I used 4 other templates from ‘other’ joomla templates club…it did not worked as I expected….So stick to joomlart! 😀
