April 29, 2010 at 10:05 am #342045Hi,
Hmm from my own experience, I would rather test the site live and make changes
on-site.
Both has it’s pros and cons, let’s me list some for you.To create template locally and modify is not a bad idea. You see changes, you customize, you save the trouble of loading pages again and again online because the host is you, it loads immediately. However, when you upload the site to a server with a compiled version, there are several factors you might have to compromise on.
1) file permissions. Your server might be Linux/windows , and it makes file permissions difficult to modify one way or another while trying to keep your site documents safe.
2) php/iis compatibility. iis is not a concern to me, but think abt it: what if your version of php is the latest, and the server you have bought has an older one? There will be minor differences; and it can be quite stressing to resolve them at times( however some servers offer manual updates so no worries ^_^)
3)installation. Rmb the time you first tried to install the server in your desktop? Hard for me as a beginner and it’s the same case for vceryone else. Most probably you have to do the same thing again just to upload it onto the server.Hah im having a stiff neck now sitting in the train typing this, but my advice is to do it as the site is live. Reason being you know you don’t have to deal with the difference between your local system and the server.
Pardon me If I’m not relevant haha,
but in case you want to do it locally, use joomlabackup. Extensions.joomla.org
search for backup, it should come up as first.Cheers
April 29, 2010 at 7:30 pm #342094Hello Everyone,
I am very new to Joomla. I had a custom Joomla designed for me, but working out all the functions in the back office has been extremely time consuming and frustrating.
I was wondering if changing to a JA Template will help my situation out?
Is it easier to use?
What would be the main differences if I transfer/changed the current Joomla I have?I see this community is very large and very informative.
Thanks for the advice in advanced.Carlos Cintron

April 29, 2010 at 8:02 pm #342095Hi,
You should have opened another thread for this… probably a moderator will split this one. 🙂Anyway, regarding your question… although JA Templates and many other well made templates, make it easy for some and very limited customizing from the backend, it does not really change the fact that this has nothing to do with the content itself and that there’s still a learning curve you should and will eventualy go through. As any other piece of software in your PC, like Excel or Word… you will have to learn how to use it. JA Templates, or any other template, wont save you from it 🙂
You need to consider that Joomla is not a tool for building websites. You will be able to change stuff, but usually only limited to positioning and sizing (template admin tool permiting) and limited to the design itself (template).
Peace,

April 29, 2010 at 8:14 pm #342096Hello,
Thanks for replying. I am new hear and I couldn’t find where to open a new thread. I am not good with forums yet.
Please let me know this way I won’t make that mistake again.
I will open a new one if necessary.
I noticed that I was very limited, so it confirms what you said.
Thank You

April 30, 2010 at 6:47 am #342161Hello,
Open the forum of JA Purity II and T3 framework (not a special thread in it), and you will see a button “new thread” upper left corner.
Good luck,
