I’ve been running 1.1.7 for a month – Haven’t been able to improve images on http://www.dr4christ.com/index.php/itemlist/category/14-facebook Don’t think it has anything to do with the version.

Interesting. The quickstart comes with the older plugin, and I have “never” gotten the extension manager to upgrade correctly. Images look good, I’ll investigate further…:)

November 13, 2014 at 9:24 am #555097@dr4christ : It looks fine now: http://www.dr4christ.com/index.php/itemlist/category/14-facebook
The culprit is that Facebook has recently updated itself and we must also update our JA Social Feed plugin via functions: saveImage and getContent in /plugins/system/jasocial_feed/jasocial_feed.php file.
This update will be also included in upcoming release version of this plugin.

November 13, 2014 at 4:17 pm #555127O.K. Saguaros – Principle Direct Posted Pictures on Facebook Pages have improved. YEAH!! Things are getting better. I knew they would because you are a Kung Fu Panda Jedi – 🙂 Now back to reality – we still have 3 problems with the Facebook plugin – I’m going to try to illustrate this to you with .jpgs.
After adding a “shared post” of a album from a public post (root does come from a personal Facebook page), deleting catches, croning etc. – http://www.dr4christ.com/index.php/itemlist/category/14-facebook looks like this.
41056
Problem 1.) This new shared post on FACEBOOK – renders no principle picture however opening the article you can see the thumbnail underneath the large gray question mark – this is NEW (never have seen this before)
Problem 2.) The difference between the middle article (which is working great) and the third article (where the red arrow is pointing) is that the middle article is just a picture posted in Facebook’s default position (which produces no duplicate text) and the third is a Facebook album which as you can see produces a duplicate text error on every different album. (This has nothing to do with Joomla settings nor does any of the actual posts on Facebook have this duplicate phenomenon) This problem carries over to the actual article as well – illustrated here.
41062
3.) I’m not sure this is possible but will these additional pictures in the Facebook album always appear as thumbnails or is there an option of importing there larger versions?

November 21, 2014 at 9:00 pm #556137https://fbstatic-a.akamaihd.net/rsrc.php/v2/yA/r/gPCjrIGykBe.gif is this the graphic? I have one too, its generated by facebook – this one is on this post http://www.wanganui.org/art-news/38930-facebook-id-a6d6446803e8f9f8d35ffeeb5171e7f8. I must say my site has improved after the latest patch, as we suspected a Facebook change caused the main issue.

November 24, 2014 at 8:03 am #556289This case is really weird as the Facebook Graph API returns this blank image: https://graph.facebook.com/10152549585555980/picture instead of link of image.
Could you tell us how you upload this image so that we could check it further?

November 24, 2014 at 6:28 pm #556359Dear Saguaros
There are problems with the 1.1.8 update. That image: https://graph.facebook.com/10152549585555980/picture began appearing after you made the changes to our page and posted on this forum on 11/13. This image Saguaros is an internal Facebook error – we have no knowledge of it nor did we put it there. Its new.
We updated to JA System Social Feed plugin 1.1.8 and the same issue persists. Our Facebook section on http://www.DR4Christ.com: http://www.dr4christ.com/index.php/itemlist/category/14-facebook now contains new articles we posted after your 11/13 post – what is interesting is this image appears yet within the article the correct image is there. So the problem is within the plugin – it needs more work. All the problems we very painstakingly documented on 11/13 after thoroughly testing your changes.
Note: Understanding what “Directly posting” (Creating material – Problem 1) means in contrast with “Shared posting” (Problem 2 & 3) on Facebook is essential when looking at these problems.
Problem 1.) While you have improved the image resolution, directly posting a album with multiple pictures on Facebook causes text to be duplicated. You can see this on Oct 22’s facebook cron. This album has multiple images – opening the article you can see the images yet the text is duplicated above the images and below them. Directly posting a single images does not do this – it is just happening with multiple image albums. After spending a lot of time testing – we can confirm that this has nothing to do with Joomla settings nor does it happen randomly on different Facebook posts. It happens on every multiple image album directly posted and subsequently cronned via the plugin.
Problems 2.) Shared posts on FACEBOOK (in my case this comes from a personal Facebook page) – these posts render no principle picture (rather the gray image) via the plugin HOWEVER opening the article you can see the correct thumbnail image underneath the large gray question mark – so it knows the image is there – it just displays the gray question mark. New shared content crons from the 22nd of November illustrate this. This is NEW – it didn’t happen in 1.1.7 – it is plugin related. (We have never have seen this before)
Problem 3.) Shared Status updates that contain no image (in my case this comes from a personal Facebook page) render a link to our profile picture (not the image – just the link) like on both new crons also from the 22nd of November.
P.S. – We would also like to know if is possible to have these additional images being cronned in from Facebook albums appear as their original size rather than always appearing as thumbnails? If not that is o.k. – we would just like an answer.

Thanks Saguaros – we will wait – and even if it is something that can not be fixed – let us know so we can move on from this.

December 6, 2014 at 10:12 pm #557749Hiya Tom, just to let you know Im getting the same grey question marks on some posts. At least 1.1.8 has solved some issues we have been bleating on about. Pretty sure this one is yet another tweak to be sorted by the Joomlart guys.

February 22, 2015 at 1:50 am #560257Keeping this thread alive in the vain hope that techies see it. Currently version 1.1.9 is out, updateable via the extension manager. They have managed to get Facebook feeds going again, after a long downtime, but the current build is now back to gragging smaller timeline images into the articles. So a step backwards.
