I have today a site running on joomla 1.5 with a Rockettheme template. Does anyone know how much trouble I will get if i change to a JoomlArt template?

I’m thinking first of all my photos (I use rokbox gallery today) and blog comments (I use jcomments).
I do not want to build a whole new site!

    Hi,

You can use Joomlart template and other extensions that you can download with a template are very easy to use.

I have tried using Rokbox gallery to create a photo album with a JA template, and it did not give me any issue..

If you want, you can try using free JA template, JA Purity II, to see if any of your extensions are conflicting with the JA template.
Here is the link to download JA PUrity II : http://www.joomlart.com/forums/downloads.php?do=cat&id=145

I have checked Jcomments with JA template, and it worked fine too.

I tried Rockbox with JA Template, works just fine. You may go ahead with this. 🙂

The change from any template to another will require a little effort and often you will run into unforseen problems. Here is how I would try things.

First I would install the quickstart of the new template on my local machine using a tool such as WAMP – http://www.wampserver.com/en/. This will allow you to have a play with the new template ans see how the JAT3 system works before you start. The JAT3 system is both simple and complex at the same time. In its simplest form it just works but the more you want to play the more you need to learn to unleash its full potential.

I would then use Akeeba – https://www.akeebabackup.com/ to make a backup of my live site and then install that also on my local machine.

Then it is a matter of working on your local machine to get everything setup as you wish. All templates use different names for module position, different settings for slideshows and different class suffixes in various places. Certain extensions that complement your new template will need setting up. Then we have images in articles, some JA templates take care of this automatically but you may have settings needed for your old template that need adjusting. It will take time but if you work through carefully it is quite easy.

Good luck and please be sure to show us your completed site.

    Hi,

We have found that the content-rokbox plugin is conflicting with the JA Droid template backend. In frontend it works fine but it doesnt show the JAT3 tabs in the admin side, only if the rokbox plugin is enabled.

Have you tried the latest release of the plugin? I thought this was fixed a while back.

    @phill,

No I am not sure which plugin version has conflict with JA Droid. just came across this issue so posted it here..

I think verion 1.7 is fine but versions prior to that had the problem. From their changelog

———– 1.7 Release [01-Nov-2010] ———–
    02.31-Oct-2010 Djamil Legato
03.# Stopped RokBox from loading in Admin

I am aware of it as I have fixed a few of our users sites by upgrading this plugin for them. Hopefully it does not cause future problems.
