My front page (Teline III v2) displays as it should in Firefox and Chrome, but things are totally messed up in IE and Safari.
Here are screen shots:
Firefox (looks same in Chrome)
IE8 (looks same in Safari)
In Safari and IE8, part of the JA News Frontpage module (the non-highlighted articles) disappears (see #2), a Twitter module (#4) also disappears from the col-mass1 position, a JA Tabs module (#5) moves from the col-mass1 position on the right side of the screen to the content-top position on the left side, and a duplicate main menu item (#6) disappears from the col-mass1 position. Also, the JA News module that should show in the content-top position disappears (see #3).
Pretty crazy. Please help.
After reading a post on a similar topic, I decided to upgrade the JA News Front Page module to 1.3.8 and that made things really crazy — because the default is “left” position and the module would not “save” or “apply” a change in position to content-top. (Same for 1.3.9, which was supposed to address that issue — but it still isn’t working.)
But I’m not sure it’s JA News Front Page that is causing the problem because when I disable it, things still remain the same (disappearing modules or in the wrong position).
Please advise. If you need to access my admin, please send me a PM.

February 11, 2011 at 2:27 pm #376214A link to your page will really help in solving this. It is most likely you have a missing tag or an article pasted from word somewhere but we need to see it to be sure.

Phill: I PM’ed you site address plus admin logon info yesterday. Help would be greatly appreciated.
Regarding comment about articles copied from Word, please note that I copied and pasted some articles from an existing MS FrontPage site into new articles. Would that throw the template formatting out of whack in one browser but not another? (No issues in Firefox and Chrome, just in IE8 and Safari.)
Also, please note: latest version of JA Front Page News module (1.3.9 dated Feb 8, 2011) still has issues with Save and Apply buttons not working.

February 16, 2011 at 3:33 pm #376989The articles pasted from Frontpage are definately the cause of your problems. They contain alll their own formatting which IE is parsing. FF is more intelligent so is laying things out as you should expect. You will need to re-add all those articles but this time use the dedicated button in the editor fot this very task. By default you will not see the buttons (a little clipboard with various symbols on them such as the m$ word logo). To see them go into the tinyMCE plugin from the plugin manager then in the dropdown on the right change the setting from “Advanced” to “Extended”. Save the settings then return to the editor and you will see the new buttons. Remove all the affected articles then re-make them using the aformentioned button.
As for JA Frontpage News, I do not use it but hopefully one of the devs or another user can suggest what is going on.
Your PM I only recieved a couple of hours ago. Please remember, I just help out JA so am not on here 24*7. If you need urgent support then the ticket system will often provide a faster response.

February 16, 2011 at 4:32 pm #376991OK, thanks, Phill. Appreciate your assistance.
Do I have to go back and clean up all of my articles or just those that are displaying on front page of site?
February 16, 2011 at 5:37 pm #376999OK, regarding whether I have to fix all of the articles, I just tested by unclicking “publish on front page” on the 17 articles that I had currently published to the front page — and when I did that, my site returned to normal on IE8 and Safari. Therefore, I conclude that it only matters if the tainted article is published to the Front Page.
Next, I will add the articles back to the front page one at a time to see which one (or more) is causing problems.

February 16, 2011 at 6:24 pm #377004Actually, poor code will affect any page on any Joomla website in IE. Same goes for almost any cms. It is really important therefore to get it right from the start. I often see websites where multiple users add articles then the owner panics when their site is killed after a user unknowingly adds some code.
February 16, 2011 at 6:41 pm #377007OK, thanks, Phill. Is there any way to check code, e.g., Firebug, rather than going back and re-creating all of those articles? (probably over 100 at this point that were copied and pasted from MS Frontpage.)

February 16, 2011 at 10:26 pm #377028Unless you are talented with mysql then it really is a case of going through all the articles.

July 2, 2011 at 7:54 am #399595It is a common problem. Many people make the mistake of copying articles from Word and not using the dedicated button to strip the code. On J1.6 you can set the filtering to strip the code out and simply open and re-save all the affected articles to remove the unwanted tags.
