Hello everybody,
I come from the SAP Basis System world, which is very different from Joomla’s world. So, please forgive me if my question is stupid, but I can’t find the solution to my problem.
When I click on an item title on the front page, the result is sometimes OK: the item’s content is displayed, and that is it (This_is_OK.jpg).
But, usually, clicking on an item title brings the whole frontpage with the item’s content. This means I get two copies of the same item, plus a messy front page (This_is_not_OK.jpg).
I use JA News 1.1.1 and the JA Teline Quick Start kit.
BTW, congratulations to the Joomlart team, it’s a smashing template and the other ones look great too.
Thank you for your help,
Pierre

June 14, 2007 at 2:37 am #222116Hi, JA News usually only used in frontpage, so you have to config it in administrator panel to show it only in frontpage. (I think you’d better read ja_teline userguide again)
June 14, 2007 at 6:16 am #222130Hi, I am having exactly the same problem.
I have followed the user guide exactly for my domain http://www.proactivesafety.ie
I have assigned the Ja-News Module to the Home page, but this still happens.

June 14, 2007 at 7:00 am #222133Hi Everybody,
This is possibly the famous itemid bug introduced in Joomla! 1.0.12.
Read more about this and how to revert back to normal behaviour here:

PeterJune 14, 2007 at 8:53 am #222140Thank you Oceandragon and Swemmel !
Oceandragon, I don’t think the problem is related to a config error because 2 of the 3 rolling items I use in the Headline part do work correctly. Moreover, all JA News items were created in the same way (I thought it was the ‘safer’ way): using the Quick Start items, and changing only the title, the image and the text. No parameter changed.
I applied the patches you mention, Peter, but it didn’t solve the problem. Did it help carlosemuralles and kearnsey11?
June 14, 2007 at 9:36 am #222143Hi Guys,
Unfortunately these changes did not work for me either. When I click on any link from my ‘grid’ basically the whole front page appears again under the text on the linked to page.
The search continues…
June 14, 2007 at 11:46 am #222145Looking at the sites indicated by recent threads in this forum, this is a common problem. Examples are http://www.portaldeluruguay.com, faktapres.sc49.info, the blog on http://www.perfumecritic.com…
A quick and dirty workaround would be to make the titles inert so that they are not links anymore. I would then add a link of my own in the text with the ‘Insert/edit link’ icon. Is this possible? Thanks again for your help.
June 14, 2007 at 12:37 pm #222148Hell, I’d be happy if I could get rid of the article titles altogether. Any ideas how do remove them?
June 22, 2007 at 7:21 am #222575After a whole week struggling with the problem, I’ve decided to switch to Senecio. Everything works perfectly well, and it took me only two hours to obtain the result I wanted.

PeterI think you are exactly correct Peter. I have read 3 pages of that thread and it sounds like the problem everyone is having with JA-News loading on every page. I am tired of reading that thread for now, but I am going to read the whole thing and try the hacks suggested. I will post my results here in a few days. The good news is that the hacks posted (in what I read so far) have worked for the people who have applied them. The bad news is that it is not going to work for version 1.5 😮
Thanks for the link.instantinlaw Friendinstantinlaw

June 23, 2007 at 4:27 am #222621Peter this is indeed the problem for most of the troubles with Ja-News.
Contrary to popular belief, this is not a bug of Ja-News, but rather has to do with the way Joomla prosesses unique URL id’s. The change was implimented in version 1.0.12, and will continue into version 1.5.
There are a few fixes for this Here (the link originally posted by swemmel) and Here (more info)
June 23, 2007 at 7:06 am #222623Hello Guys.
I had the same problem, but found the solution.
What confuses the user is that you believe this to be a template problem. In addition Front Page is a component (but should be defined as a module since it works as a module), and JA News is a module (but by users is perceived as a component since Front Page Component is it).
It is very confusing, but the solution is very simple:
- Choose Modules
- Choose Site modules
- Choose JA News.
- Choose which menu you want the JA News module published under. Normally it is only for the home page.
You’re set. 😀
You have fun with the module. And if you have a solution to MY problem where the scroller seem to add in upcoming news (http://www.risksopportunities.com, feel free to help me.
You have a great day,
Erich N

June 23, 2007 at 3:01 pm #222635Hey nielsen, I was unable to access your site but the problem you described was usually caused by using verion 1.1.2 of the JA News module. It is recommended to go back to version 1.1.1 with the Teline template.

The problem is that I don’t know where to find the version 1.1.1 (or the current release which is 1.1.3) Any suggestions?
All the best from a Stockholm in sun,
Erich N
