    Dear all,

    I have just installed successfully Teline 2 via Quickstart.

    When I went to the configuration (backend), I tried to oversee the template and also make some changes with layout and so on. I changed the “site name” to my own and save the changes successfully. But there is a tab appearing on THE top of the page requiring to enter FTP username and password. Is that common? The FTP message: JFTP::write: Bad response
    Message
    Operation Failed!: failed to open file /home/mafrater/public_html/imagineguinee.com/templates/ja_teline_ii/params.ini for writing.

    see attachment.1720
    Could someone please tell me what is the trouble please?

    Make sure params.ini is writeable.
    Log into admin panel, go to Help>System Info, and Directory Permissions, make sure all is writeable.
    Enable FTP layer under global configuration. Then try again.

    I have enabled the FTP via Global config. There are some details on those fileds, I don’t know if they are correct.

    Everything is also writable.

    Did you add FTP Username and FTP Password?

    Hmmm, connect to your host by a FTP program and browse to the folder of the template where you have index.php etc, see if you have a file called “params.ini” there?

    The reason for this, as alluded to by Menalto is that the unique FTP

    username
    password

    1) may not be correctly setup (does not access the correct directory)
    2) the username may not be in the correct format
    3) may not have been added correctly to the appropriate section

    Tips:

    As a security measure, the FTP username and password must be different from your primary FTP username and password

    1) may not be correctly setup (does not access the correct directory)
    => you may check this from the FTP path in your FTP application when opened to the pertinent joomla FTP entry page

    2) the username may not be in the correct format
    let us say your unique FTP username for this purpose is:

    ukfrat00 (anything you want for a username really)

    in my Control panel, the actual username for the above, since it is not the primary username for the site, would be:

    ukfra100@mysite.com => where @mysite.com is relevant to the domain name of the “your” site. This is usually the standard for shared servers.

    Thus, if you just entered “ukfra100”, you will get the error (at least I did).

    3) FTP info may not have been added correctly to the appropriate section

    you can check this, I believe, by checking the

    configuration.php (??? Is this correct Menalto?)

    I forgot what part of the Control panel of the Joomla 1.5.x admin, but you can edit and iput the correct FTP username and password.

    That is what I remember here.

    ukfraternite, Menalto, cgc0202,
    I agree with what you guys are saying but:
    If you follow the wiz on install it tests for wrong ftp path (even sets it)
    and credentials. I did that and it normally works.
    ukfraternite, have you checked that the:
    Admin => Global Configuration => Server =>
    FTP Settings
    Enable FTP = YES

    If not you might have a problem with user rights, etc.
    I could probably help you with it as I finnaly got my stuff fixed but let me know before I create a monster out of this post.

    Yes, I have parasm.ini

    What do I do with it? I have just few option with it here.

    These are the details inside it :
    logoType=image
    logoText=Imagine Guinée
    sloganText=Total Freedom of Imagination
    ja_font=3
    usertool=2
    ja_screen=wide
    ja_color=default
    menutype=magazine
    ja_menu=split
    showComponent=1

    And Bossep, I went to Admin => Global Configuration => Server => and everything there is enabled.

    I have tried to change the Logo Type to Text, but this is not allowing me.

    as you can also see, on the top right the parasm.ini is unwritable.

    Would that be the problem ? How do I change it?

    Can you be more exact, exactly what you changed (show also route path) so that new users who encounter this problem will have a guide on how to solve it?

    Hi ukfraternite,

    This is odd. The FTP username and password forms are empty. Can you check your

    configuration.php

    if they are included there, already? If not, the absence of the FTP username and password would be another reason why you got the error. But, apparently, you said it is working, so it must be there.

    Good work ukfraternite,
    Keep your eye on the permiisions in the future. That seems to be a major issue with Joomla.

    Hello cgc0202,

    Thanks to you (mainly), I managed to sort the FTP problem out. You know when you mentionned the format it should have … example@mydomain.com, I just follwed that and it worked ! No rocket science finally 😀

    In the installation process, I just entered the prefix instead of the full one , which made me understand that some FTP allow just the prefix while others sometimes require the whole adress. (don’t know why!).

    Thank again for the hint.

    Have a good day, whatever the weather

    Yes indeed, ukfraternite,

    The moment I saw your image, I thought that was the possible cause — although as others pointed out, there are indeed several reasons for this.

    I had to do several fresh installations, and quite frustrating because I was using Gavick Pro templates — they do not have a quick start, so that it has the be done in sequence (at least an hour).

    My own control panel just records the prefix as the FTP “username”, then I remembered a ticket I sent to my webhosting service about another issue. Wella! As you aptly stated … no rocket science.

    However, I would not have had a clue to your problem had you not included the “error” in an image format. So, keep on doing that. And, I wish everyone who ask a question or for help will do the same — provide more information. It will hasten problem solving.

    This is a great issue here in Joomlart — not enough information from those asking help, and contributes to the delay in solving problems that would otherwise be quite easy.

    Cornelio
