January 30, 2014 at 5:05 am #194261Why oh why do none of the standard layouts include a full-width footer? It is such a common design need. Yet you have ignored it? Because you think the site should look a certain way when the customer is the ultimate authority. I’ve read the lengthy T3 documentation and viewed the video tutorials and still have no clue how to expand the footer width to 100% of template width. Is it in the XML files? My attempts to do it in the template css.file have failed. Please, please tell us how to do these simple common things. Please please include this standard layout option in all future releases. Please please standardize your layouts across all templates. This is holding up rollout of the website. There is no way to edit this in the template manager or theme magic. So, please please, how on earth do we accomplish this simple and common design change? I’m a longtime customer, but strange and perplexing quirks like this cost time and money.
Thank you,

-Jim Gribble</blockquote>First of all – and with all due respect – one’s personal opinion as to what is a “common design need” and/or what should be included within “all future releases” is completely subjective – at best. There are many who prefer a specific width footer display … just as there are those who, like yourself, prefer a “full width” footer display. So to suggest that it is a design element that “everyone” wants is not altogether accurate.
As for your particular issue . . . .
When I bring up your site via the link you provided, I do not even see a “footer” display – unless you are referring to the green “bottom banner ad” currently displayed at the bottom of your site home page. If so, please advise and I can describe for you how to adjust the width display of this element.

January 30, 2014 at 6:07 pm #520572Thanks for replying. You make a good point “with all due respect.” I am just suggesting that both options be included and be made easy to implement. It’s not easy unless the full-width footer is included in at least one of the stock layouts. That we can easily chose our preference. I should have toned down the post; it was late and I was tired and frustrated. That’s no excuse, however. Please accept this apology.

-Jim Gribble</blockquote>No worries, my friend … It’s all good. 🙂
I do still want to try to assist you . . . Is your footer section the green banner ad at the bottom of your home page? Is that the area you want to expand to full width of your site?

January 30, 2014 at 6:38 pm #520578Yes, thanks. I want to make that footer full width. It now looks to be about 600px. I was thinking it was in the XML layout files, or I could use the custom CSS override. Am I on the right track?

January 30, 2014 at 6:48 pm #520581As long as we’re chatting, could you possibly clue me in about another issue? I never encountered this before. Is it a Joomla 3 wrinkle?
Here’s the problem, the default home click works beautifully for public visitors. All looks great. But, when you log in as a registered member or administrator, the home page vanishes and is replaced by an article seemingly grabbed at random. It’s the same article all the time. It’s not uncategorized; it’s in a proper category. Neither is it featured. I didn’t input the link anywhere in the menu params. All inside pages are fine.
Some Joomla posts seemed to suggest configuring the default home click to show featured articles. But that doesn’t work either. Creating a new home click and making it default doesn’t work either. There just seems to be no way to show the homepage to registered users. In registered view, the click also won’t show Featured articles. I thought it might be a user permission issue but all those settings look fine and are the same as I have always used. I made sure that registered users have permission to view any click configured as public.
I’ve been poking around numerous forums but haven’t found anyone else had this strange problem.
If you have any thoughts or know of a resource, I would really appreciate it.

-Jim G.</blockquote>Try this . . . .
If you haven’t done so already, create a new file within file path –> /templates/ja_mititus/css
Name the new file “custom.css”
Put the following CSS rule in this custom.css file . . .
.span8 {
width: 100%;
}SAVE CHANGES – CLEAR CACHE – REFRESH PAGE
Let me know if that is getting closer to what you are looking for.

January 31, 2014 at 8:33 pm #520684I am really sorry, but this did nothing to change the footer width. I did follow your directions exactly. Did clear the cash and refresh etc. I appreciate your trying to help, but maybe this requires staff assistance. I guess the question is, when your template doesn’t come with a template whose stock layouts do not include a full-width footer, how do we add one?

January 31, 2014 at 9:02 pm #520693Hey Tom, I think you’ve done enough. I believe I can get what I need by editing the layout in the Php/XML files. Had hoped it would be more straightforward, and yet it doesn’t look all that daunting. Fortunately the system allows us to easily close layouts and play around with them until it looks right.

February 5, 2014 at 4:37 pm #521349Saguaro gave the following tip:
Go to /templates/ja_mitius/tpls/blocks/footer.php.“It will depend on the position you use in the footer then change the span8 or span4 to span12: http://prntscr.com/2pojdr . It will have full width of template.”
I also found that in template manager/layout you can edit the footer1 position to make the span full width. You can then use footer1 as a 100% footer.
