It was never intimated that Teline 4 would be a September release, quite the opposite in fact. This is just a wants gathering excercise. With input from the huge userbase JA can make T4 the best news template there is.

Actually there is a stable release from Kunena. 😀 Kunena 1.6 Stable

Well I missed that. I must have missed their mailshot though it was only a few days ago. Thanks for the update.

October 9, 2010 at 8:31 am #358270hi joomlart team – we here in western Germany are very excited about the next release of Teline. Please pay attention to usability design and good navigational guidance. Remember that many users of Facebook (aged 18 to 30) do not even understand 70 percent of the features on Facebook. So, why they stay on Facebook? Answer: because 30 percent of the functions facinate these users.
So please do not try to take a lot of “killer” features into the template. Limited this features to a few important working techniques.
tipp: Bundesliga.de (http://www.bundesliga.de) is a German sports portal, which is used for many German football fans for information. We have been involved in the usability design. So we try to use limited working (visual) features (slide show (with video/quicklinks), information bars, voting to install video).

October 14, 2010 at 5:10 pm #359002I REALLY like the “Author Profiles” suggestion above !!!
Another possible thought/suggestion would be an “Ask The Author” and/or “Ask An Expert” function/component – where users can submit a question/comment to a particular authorized Author/Expert – which goes into a queue that can be accessed by the relative Author/Expert – and then the A/E can pick/choose which questions/comments to reply/post to the site.

October 15, 2010 at 1:32 am #359023From SEF/SEO point of view, the most important tag on a webpage is H1.
All tags from H1 to H6 are used exclusively for content and H1 is used for page title.
Tha page cannot have two H1 tags but can have more the one of H2-H6.Therefore, it is unacceptable to have two H1 tags on a page – one for website Logo Image/Text and one for the page title as it appear in Teline III template (and many others).
Having two H1 tags on a page confuses for all Search Engines resulting in decrease of page PR.
Simply speaking page cannot have two H1 tags!
In fact the logo should not have any tag!I hope that the above would be included in design of new Teline IV template.

October 15, 2010 at 2:16 pm #359133Hello,
I have not been here for quite sometime. And just getting back on and off. I liked the promise of the Teline III, but the main issue was the SPEED. Some of the pages I wanted to develop are intended for countries where many do not have the speed as we have here in the US. Some are lucky if they can have 56-100Kbps.
I have a connection that averages 4-7Mbps, but the Demo of Teline III still takes longer than desired.
Reluctantly, I decided to go back to the much faster Teline II which was much much faster.
So, please find ways to improve the SPEED.
Many use Google search because it is very fast. No one will wait for a page that will load 20-30 seconds, which will be the case even in many parts of the US, where they are still using phone internet connection, even AOL, not fast DSL or cable speed.
Arvind presented ways to optimize page presentation before the Teline III came out. Yahoo and Google also have a lot of articles optimize speed presentation. I hope these will be considered, if not adopted in the next Teline IV.
I am not a programmer, but it seems the total size of the script template keeps on increasing from Teline I => Teline II => Teline III
As it was the scripts size for the Template seems to be even larger than the entire Joomla which is more complex than the template, itself.
=> I hope this will not continue with Teline IV. because I think this is a major reason for the progressing slower speed of the Teline series.
Apple for example, decided to reevalture its OSX from v5 (Leopard) to v6 ISnow Leopard). I think they were able to reduce the size of their program tby more than 25%. Then, they looked further and found a way to simplify the OS, to come up with an even faster modified OS, that is now called iOS.
Now you can do, almost instant on with the iPad. That was amazing when I first opened it.
Joomlart should similarly focus on optimization. Speed is everything.
No number of whistles and bells added to the Teline IV, if it results to something slower than Teline II. Visitors will not come back.I did my own integration for the CSS of the Teline II, and I was able to improve the speed, and it was easier to edit also when I like to change some CSS specifications. Simple things like this, including integrating the icons, where possible, can reduce the number of files that needed to be called to present the page.
And, if possible, substitute script for an icon, when it is not too critical, in the visual presentation, or it does not really add much, other than slowing the page presentation..
There are more on this, of course, and webdesigners should know them better than us.
Compatibility with smaller mobile computing devices
I looked at the Teline II sites I created and they looked nice and fast in iPad. My question though is what happens if someone looks at the same site with smaller mobile devices, like those from Apple, Androids, etc.?
In house extensions or adopt extension from Joomla. I was excited with some features of the Teline III, but I ended up not using them because they depend on using other sites, rather than within the created sites.
Cleaner layout for the JA News. The Demo uses perfect number of characters that result in perfect vertical alignment. But this is not always the case with actual articles, some may not have images, the titles may not always be the same length, etc. This will result in a jagged alignment. The script layout for the Teline 1 (original) solved this by having this layout:
1 -> 2 ->3
4 -> 5 -> 6Multiple copies of the JA News module. . I tried to do this when I was using the JA News for Teline III but if I recall correctly, it was not allowing me to do so. After much careful thought, I prefer the simpler JA News used in Teline II. This should be an option in Teline IV.
Ability to have different column widths for the Featured News vs. the other articles in the JA News Frontpage.. I prefer this for greater flexibility.
Hot Topic module. I would like to have the Hot Topic module, but the algorithm used by Joomlart for image resizing/cropping must be improved. I have a separate post for this.
Better tutorials that will be understood by those with not much programming background. For example, I wanted to modify the index.php, to adjust the width layouts of the main left and right columns, but it was Greek to me. Maybe if there is a more annotated CSS, for development, it would help. For example, notes like
/* — main left column width — */
/* — main left column wrapper — */
etc.I think this will lessen the frustration of members. And, will lessen the number of querries, asking the same thing, in different guizzes. So, less work and frustration also for the staff and moderators.
I hope all the issues raised in the Teline III forum, when it was still in development were all resolved, and will not show up in Teline IV, again. It was one of the reasons why I gave up on Teline III. Too frustrated waiting to have a working template.
More later.
Cornelio
N.B.
If you have to delay the release to provide more detailed tutorial, optimized speed, etc. then it is worth the wait for both members and the staff/moderators, in the long run.1 user says Thank You to cgc0202 for this useful post

October 20, 2010 at 12:01 pm #359683It looks like Teline 3 v2 is out…really? Why?
I don’t mean to be negative, but Teline 3 still takes about a half hour to download the home page. IMHO it’s not even usable…what happened to Teline 4???

Hi paulwallen,
<blockquote>…what happened to Teline 4??? </blockquote>Teline IV is coming in November.
now regarding your view on Teline III V2, well, as promised earlier we are upgrading all T3 V1 templates to T3 V2 framework. This would also help us in getting ready for Joomla 1.6, as making T3 V2 templates to work native on J 1.6 would be easier. Since, both the version are very different, all updated templates would be marked V2 and released separately, as there is no migration or upgrade steps.
Yes, Teline series have been heavier than other regular templates, but it loads normally on my end. Besides, one can now use JA Amazon S3 component which supports Amazon S3 and cloudfront services (coming up version), that can bring the loading time and also help speed up the template.
Regards
Arvind

As for the V2 upgrade, there are problems. After updating the components, plugins and template, my system is not working correctly. I’ve found the following, in order of seriousness:
- News2 – Sections do not display: I enter my section IDs and the front page remains blank. I go over to my older Teline III and the section displays correctly.
- Slowness – There is a noticeable increase in time to load the page. It was reduced when I turned off the intensedebate option and used discqus. I thought the speed would be improved since T3 v2 uses a cache.
When I have time tonight, I’ll install the v2 using the full install and see if that clears up any of the problems.

It is Joomla 1.5 version, however, it would take less effort to move on to J 1.6. The T3 framework is being developed with J 1.6 in vision. We already have T3 blank running on J 1.6 >> http://demo.t3.joomlart.com/joomla16/

If this relates to Teline III V2. Please raise it in Teline III forum. This thread is not for Teline III discussion. As it has been clearly said in the annoucement, there is no migration from Teline III V1 to V2. You would need to install Teline III V2 and configure it. Almost all the extensions have been upgraded to work with T3 framework 2, So you would need to uninstall and reinstall them too. Best is to do it on a clone of your site. Userguides and these instructions would be made sticky in the Teline III forum in a day or two.
Any further posts about Teline III V2 will be moved to its forum without further notice.
