I’m trying to install Google Plus One on several of my webpages but although I follow the Google tutorial guidelines and insert the code in Content just before the tag out, it won’t show up. Please help.

You can create a new one custom module with google plus button code as content.
Then you can assign this module to one position on your template (eg: left side).
