June 24, 2010 at 6:58 pm #152036All PHP files are GPL, so I can modify them as I want. Including in a way to remove the copyright and I am allowed to do that according to the GPL.
Why should I pay for copyright removal? And is it legal to require it?Anonymous ModeratorJA Developer

June 25, 2010 at 3:12 am #348031Hi there,
You might need to refer to the JA licenses statement HERE which also clearly clarify on JA proprietary license for non-PHP code elements, such as images, cascading style sheets and JavaScript elements in the released JoomlArt Products (Templates , modules, components, plugins etc.).

June 25, 2010 at 6:59 am #348055That is clear. But their license can not refer to obligations in GPL licensed files.

June 25, 2010 at 7:13 am #348059While I won’t buy into the JA propriety copyright text too much, having read it through it seems confusing and unenforceable in relation to developers or commercial application, see highlighted text for personal use means I can’t put up a commercial (paid for) site with anything covered by this agreement as commercial development is not personal use.
Therefore everyone not using JA templates for a personal site, is illegally? using content covered under the JA propriety copyright?
If that is so then given the volume of users breaking this copyright, the copyright agreement then becomes unenforceable due to ambiguity and should be clearer, at least to me it’s saying if it aint personal sites it ain’t covered?“These files are not released under the GPL, and are supplied to each paying user for personal use only. You may not offer them, modified or unmodified, for redistribution or resale of any kind or include them in a package or extension of your own without prior consent of JoomlArt.com.”
Not that it really bothers me, I play by the rules

July 28, 2010 at 1:39 pm #351072There is still no official answer on this topic. The PHP files, where the copyright is placed is under GPL. So I can modify these as I wish.
Therefore, why should I pay for “copyright removal”?And your terms of services do not match the GPL part of the files that way?
