May 1, 2017 at 3:57 pm #1030060Congratulations on the acquisition of iJoomla.
I have used Guru in an number of sites. As a way to display courses and offer courses to individual, it works well.
They are, however, missing a HUGE customer base. Guru with some work, be positioned as an internal or intranet service for the millions of companies out there that want to do employee training.
1) Guru assumes (according Merav’s own posts), the lessons are videos. Not the case
2) There is no way to export a course (from a library site) and import it to another site.
3) JCE does all the functionality of Guru’s media/course creation tool – use that.
4) Along with 3) it is so easy to create a category of articles as media for Guru – have Guru point to a category and "Import as Lessons" – saving hundreds of hours for course developers
5) Create a LMS Administrator (think intranet), that can add students, put them in a "Department" assigning default courses to the department… This would be a great "Add On" Extension "Guru Corporate" You would sell thousands!IMHO

May 3, 2017 at 10:56 am #1030759Hi, Jeff.
Thank you for your feedback.

Yes, lessons are not equal to videos but a lesson may contain a video. Just like on our demo content. It depends from you, what content you’ll add to the lesson.
-
Yes, that feature is not currently available. I agree it will be really useful to import/export Guru content so you can populate Guru on your other sites (especially when you set up a new site).
-
JCE was actually designed to work with articles, it has some features that apply only to J! articles and won’t work with other extensions. That’s why we prefer to use own built-in WYSIWYG editor. It contains all basic features that you will use to create a text. All other elements like images and other media are added via Guru media library.
-
Actually this could be done with current features 🙂 You may add Joomla! articles to Guru media library. Yes, you can’t add them en-mass but still you can add them one by one and then utilize them to any lesson you want. I agree that using J! article as lesson media gives you more flexibility in content creation – you may use embed content or anything else that is not covered by other Guru media types.
- This feature is also already available 🙂 While creating a course you may set course to be free for a Joomla! group members. So it will be enough to assign certain user (or users) into J! group. They still have to create student account so any Guru records could be related to them. You may also manually add students to a course.
So as you see many features are already available or they need slight adjustment 😀 But in near future we’ll review Guru to revamp existing features. Then your remarks will be a great value for us.
