Hello!
I am new to JoomlArt and I must say that I really like the abundance of template choices. I’ve opted to use Ja Iris because I like the clean layout and simplicity of it. I plan to incorporate some features from a couple of other templates that I like as well.
I initially had an issue like others with the Newsflashes not rotating. Now I have a couple of issues and wondered if someone else could take a look at my site to see if it’s just my computer/browser (Windows Vista/Firefox).
I used the fix noted here for the rotating newsflashes: http://www.joomlart.com/forums/topic/whats-best-for-you_-ja_iris/. It worked initially, but now when I go to the home page and first bring up the site there is no rotation. Also the Menu on the left side is inoperable except for HealthyLife Products. I can not click any of the other menu items (the top works fine).
If I click on another page the newsflash rotation works, but the left Menu still does not. Then when I return to the home page the newsflash rotation miraculously works. The left menu still does not.
I have some experience with web design, but not so much with Joomla and using Joomla templates. I love all that Joomla offers and am thrilled to be part of JoomlArt. I searched through a lot of other clubs and templates and didn’t find the level of profession templates for such an incredible price anywhere!
I hope you’re having a great weekend and of course hope that someone is able to assist me with the couple of issues I seem to have.
Thanks in advance!!
Christina

October 14, 2007 at 10:19 pm #231039What are the parameters of your newsflash module? I can’t see a rotation as well with FF and IE7 at the Home. But the menu works fine.
Set the module parameter under Pages/Item with the Menu Item Links to “All”.
October 16, 2007 at 1:21 am #231092Thanks for replying, Orpheus.
Here are the parameters: Public top All 35 mod_janewsflash
The rotation works fine on all pages, but the home page – unless I go to another page on the site and return to the home page, then the newsflash rotation works.
The Main Menu (on the left side of the page – the Top Menu works fine regardless) however fails to work at any time (in FireFox – it works in IE 7). I can see it and I can see the links, but the only operable clickable link is the link for HealthyLife Products. Not only does the Main Menu not function properly, but the navigation line on the page doesn’t work. When I say navigation line I mean the line above the article or whatever that shows the path of the current page. Ex:
Home – Articles – Healthy Body – Healthy Body: What You Put In it May Not Be as Good as You Think.October 18, 2007 at 6:38 am #231173I’m having the same problem with the menu. It seems to be a Firefox issue as the menu links are visible and work in IE6.
October 19, 2007 at 1:39 am #231202I agree, but I’m not expert in debugging. Does anyone know how to make this work properly in FF? It’s strange to me that my wrapper link is working on the Main Menu, but the other links don’t. If I’m going to fully use the template, I need it to work in the two major browsers – especially since FF is my browser of choice.

October 20, 2007 at 11:16 pm #231277Something in the newsflash module is interfering with the left menu & something is causing the newsflash rotation not to occur on the home page. It works in the demo. Is there anyone who can help solve this?? If this isn’t the correct place to ask for help, can someone direct me to where I should be asking?
Here is a link to the error message that comes up in IE:
Thank you.

October 21, 2007 at 9:56 pm #231297The most likely cause might have to do with a conflict between the template and a module. It’s usually conflicting scripts that have fancy graphic effects. Try disabling some modules first to see if you still have the a problem.
October 22, 2007 at 8:55 pm #231361Right, it’s the JA Newsflash module. It does not affect the Main Menu in IE, but it does in FF. However in both browsers it does not cycle through the newsflashes on the home page until you visit another page on the site. Then it works.
It works fine in the JAIris demo so there’s an issue somewhere in the download. If someone can tell me what this is, that would be fantastic. Then I can actually use this demo. Obviously there is a glitch somewhere because it works in the demo template.
Is there anyone who can compare the demo files with the files that have been made available for download to members?

October 23, 2007 at 5:59 pm #231418Maybe you can check the file permissions of the images in your FTP. Also, you might want to disable the cache options for that module. You might also want to try disabling caching in global configuration as well.
October 24, 2007 at 1:56 am #231429I checked global caching and it isn’t on. I don’t know where to check for cache settings on the newsflash module. There’s no setting for it.
File permissions on images? I don’t understand what affect that would have on the lack of newsflash rotation on the home page or the Main Menu not being clickable in FF. Maybe you can explain that to me.
NEW INFO: Okay, I figured out that the DIV height had to be adjusted to fix the issue with the Main Menu so that’s resolved. 🙂
And thanks, redlight_traitor. I appreciate your help with this issue. 🙂

October 24, 2007 at 2:12 am #231433Ok… first off, go and disable all other modules on your site and see if it works properly now. After you’ve done that, start re-enabling things until it conflicts. See which one is causing the crash.
October 24, 2007 at 2:44 am #231434Thanks. I just updated my previous post to reflect that I figured out what was causing the Main Menu to have issues in FF. Glad to have that issue resolved. 🙂
So now my only issue is with the Newsflash Module. I disabled all of the modules and then re-enabled them and nothing happened. 🙁
To clarify, the newsflash rotation works on the home page once I’ve visited another page on the site and then return to the home page.
October 24, 2007 at 6:54 am #231445I have some more info. It seems there is an error in javascript.
Hopefully there is someone here familiar with js. This is the error message I get from FF:
Error: missing ; before statement
Source File: javascript: uncaught exception: Permission denied to call method XMLHttpRequest.open
Line: 1, Column: 10
Source Code:
uncaught exception: Permission denied to call method XMLHttpRequest.openWhen I “evaluate” that message I get further details:
Error: uncaught exception: ” nsresult: “0x80070057 (NS_ERROR_ILLEGAL_VALUE)” location: “JS frame :: chrome://global/content/viewSource.js :: viewSource :: line 141” data: no]

October 24, 2007 at 8:14 am #231447If you’re getting javascript errors. I suggest re-downloading the file.
