I was trying to edit the header mask with Gimp to make it lighter, but with no success. The problem with it is that it overrides most of the banner image. Maybe the dark parts should be smaller on the sides… Does anyone have a solution?

I am not sure if your question has be answered. Can you provide a livelink to the website in question?

Also, are you using Firefox with the Firebug extension to help solve design problems and source code acquisition?
