How would I go about making the header of the template one full logo width while eliminating user 3 and 4 positions?

First go into module manager and disable the items in users 3 and 4 positions.

The edit template.css (line 783)

h1.logo a {background:transparent url(../images/logo.jpg) no-repeat scroll center center;
display:block;
height:38px;
width:355px;
}

The items in red are the height and width of your graphic. Just change them to the size of the logo you need.
