I am trying to remove the heading that is pulled from the Site Name in global configuration. This heading shows up just below the slideshow.
Any help is appreciated.

Hi Ryan

You need to use the Menu Manager. Select the Main Menu and open ‘Home’.

On the right hand side, open the ‘Parameters (System)’ tab.

Where it says ‘Show Page Title’ set to ‘No’.

That should do the trick!
