June 10, 2009 at 1:45 pm #141828I am sort of committed to using CB and I cant justify the per site cost of Jomsocial.
CB is ok but generally the look is poor, does anyone know of templates that can be used to give it a better look that can be used independently of the main site template?
Normally I dont have much bother finding what I am looking for but this one is drawing a real blank so far.
Any help would be appreciated.

June 14, 2009 at 8:09 am #307859There is a possible way to seperate the html and css from the script to an independent file you use in a template fashion but the method I saw was for an older version than current and I havent tried to see if its still possible yet. Also, I think it requires some familiarity with the calls the CB script uses to substitute items into the php and html.
See the article I found here : http://www.plainlycode.com/Joomla/Simplifying-Community-Builder-Layouts.html
I havent had the time to try it myself yet but I may well give it a go soon.
There are a couple of commercial solutions but I am hoping to find something I can implement without extra costs.
I think it would make a huge plus point if Joomlart included CB skinning in their templates regularly 🙂

June 14, 2009 at 8:59 am #307863Thanks for the response much appreicated and I may use that article to certinaly help with the profile css.
Can you point out any commercial templates that are any good – I seem to only find 1 or 2 out there. I do wish also joomlart had a few cb builder templates to be honest.
I am trying to build a music community kinda like that of nin.com but obviously I just cannot find anything as professional as nin.com in terms of integrating cd builder and joomla and a great template.
Any help would be super again mate.
James

June 14, 2009 at 11:21 am #307869Ive been listening to NIN since the very first album 🙂 Bit of an old industrial rock fan. Ministry, Skinny Puppy, Revco etc etc. I’d expect the nin community to be very advanced with Trent Reznor apparently being such a technology freak.
If you have a go at templating with success I’d be very interested. Like I said before, a competing look to jomsocial would go down a storm right now I think and be very timely.
I may still have a go but my editing skills are very rusty, been ages since Ive had time to properly indulge.
The authors of CB have released an overall joomla template but frankly its ugly, I’m quite suprised how basic it looks.
I also found this page : http://www.sosbrigadesite.net/2009/05/a-community-builder-templates-collection/
Seems to be a roundup of whats available.

June 14, 2009 at 11:28 am #307871haha super stuff yeah – great band and great website for sure. I imagine looking at Mr Reznors posts alright that he has employed some good people to pull off that website:)
The real problem I am having is templating tha likes of the jomsocial and cb builder sites. The templates just look out of date before I begin to be honest. I have looked at the software elgg aswell but hard to find the right themes for a music site or band website but the social power of elgg looks impressive for sure.
I am going to try out one of these software packages alright – id like to stick with joomla as I know it pretty well at this stage but it seems for social networking I may have to branch off 🙁
Thanks again for the post there on the round up of themes for cb and jomsocial – il give them a spin and see what can be tweeted etc. nin.com might be a bit away yet LOL

June 14, 2009 at 12:29 pm #307877Never heard of elgg before.
I start to hate the look of anything I work on for long 🙂 Just have to try to detatch.
Perhaps Dolphin might be of interest to you? I’ve read a lot of comments about it, good and bad.

NEver tried it myself so I cant really comment.
