I am currently using the JA Content Slider module to show some products that are in a few categories, like so:

    Products
    —– Books
    —– Media
    —– Bundles
    —– Sheet Music

Easy. But I want to break those down further, where on an individual page, one one “artist’s” work shows up, so I would have to create more categories for each of the artists in each of the categories. I currently have about 20 artists, so this quickly will get out of hand. I would have 80 categories just to store these, like this:

    Products
    —– Books
    ————– Artist 1
    ————– Artist 2
    ————– Artist 3
    ————– Artist 4
    ————– etc
    —– Audio
    ————– Artist 1
    ————– Artist 2
    ————– Artist 3
    ————– Artist 4
    ————– etc

    blah blah blah.

I’d rather do this so I had the original structure up top, but use tags instead of more category levels to handle the artists, so I could say show Products/Audio category, but only items tagged “Artist 1”, etc.

I cannot find a “slider” plugin that allows for this functionality – all of them seem to end where you can either put in the exact articles, select a folder of images, or choose a category.

Can anyone help me either make JA Content Slider work like this, or suggest another extension that I can use that will do the same? I really want to avoid all those categories – Every time they add a new artist, it will be a pain this way.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Hi slavelle,

This is a customization work. And I am sorry to inform that our technical support services are dedicated for bug fixing, products maintenance or general advice on how to use the products only. All custom works that requires to extend products’ core features as shown on our demo site are not subject to support coverage and should be handled by clients.

Thus, I am sorry that we could not handle your customization request as it would delay the time for supporting other clients and developing new products for monthly release commitment.

    Thank you for your understanding.

    Best regards.

Thanks. I was actually looking for community input, not official support. Which is the best forum to discuss this sort of thing where a plugin came with the template subscription, but is not a “free” one – i.e. is part of the Joomlart Extensions club?

You mention products so is this a ecommerce site?

Or as you may see, the module supports K2 so you can use that with all the child categories and pick and choose as you want I think.

P.S. I had a special one built for me at Joomlancers so that is always an option for you.

    swissa,

Thanks for the comments. I actually decided to restructure the categories so that they make more sense:

    Artist 1
    —– Books
    —– Media
    —– Bundles
    —– Sheet Music
    Artist 2
    —– Books
    —– Media
    —– Bundles
    —– Sheet Music
    …etc

It’s still a lot of categories but I think it works better. At the moment I have something called pxtabs in there, which works as a plugin, which is what I need. I would really rather use Ja Content slider, but it doesn’t work as a plugin. I haven’t been able to find a content slider that I can use as a plugin (not a module) other than this pxtabs – which isn’t exactly what I want either, but it’s as close as I’ve found.

I need it to be a plugin because I’m calling these things into the content section of a K2 item (for each of the artists). I suppose I could do a {loadposition jacontent1} with 20+ different modules, but that just seems like 20 more of something structure-wise that I already have multiples of around the site.

    Open to suggestions!
