I want to use the four panels at the top of the default T3 template in a specific way. I just cannot figure out how to do this.

I want one article to appear in each of the four user* panels. When the publication date expires for an article, I want the panel to disappear. However, if another article is scheduled to appear in that panel, I want that panel to show the new article.

    Example:
Our site will use panels user1-4 as such: “Join Our Club”, “Visiting Speakers”, “Random Photo”, “President’s Letter”
Panels user1 and user3 are easy enough. The content is static.
Panel 4 should display only the most recent article in the “President’s Letters” category.
Panel user2 is the problem. We have several visiting speakers each year. I want to schedule only one article at a time to display in this box. IF THERE ARE NO ARTICLES TO DISPLAY HERE, I NEED THIS PANEL TO EITHER GO AWAY, OR DISPLAY SOME OTHER DEFAULT ARTICLE.

    Any ideas?

I may have this totally wrong and I haven’t tried it so backup first in case.

If you build a new modul like ‘Articles – Newsflash’ for example, you can call an article or articles from a category so you make a special category just for this modul. Not only can you then set the publish and unpublish dates for the article but you can also for the modul itself set a publish and stop publishing date.

I think this may achieve your aim.
