Hey all, I replaced the demo pics in slideshow (img-1, img-2, img-3 …etc ) with my own pics. But the whole template started to act weird. The slide show doesnt act right it gets stuck on one pic
I’ve been replacing the pics here and there and its worked fine but all of a sudden it started to act up.
Any ideas whats causing this, or how to fix ?
Thanks for all replies.

October 22, 2008 at 12:59 pm #276589Have you ever viewed the folder containing the slideshow pics in thumbnail view with windows? If so, windows places a hidden file called thumbs.db in the folder. This file can stop your slideshow from running.
Even if you enable ‘show hidden files’ in windows it still will not show thumbs.db. You need to turn off ‘Hide protected system files’ .
While in the folder go to TOOLS>FOLDER OPTIONS>VIEW> disable ‘Hide protected system files‘ AND enable ‘Show hidden files and folders’
See if you now have a thumbs.db file in the folder and if you do delete it. This will stop your slideshow from stopping. If you view the folder in thumb view again then thumbs.db will reappear!!
To disable it on your PC go to TOOLS>FOLDER OPTIONS>VIEW> and check ‘Do not cache Thumbnails’
NB: This is ONLY if you have viewed the folder in thumbs view on a windows machine. If your server is linux then your slideshow is stopping for a different reason!

October 22, 2008 at 1:16 pm #276590When its gets stuck with one picture then 9 out of 10 times its SEF related?
Did you recently turn SEF url’s on? if so turn it off again and see if it works again.
There are a couple slideshow+sef fixes available on the forum but first check if its really causing it.October 22, 2008 at 11:32 pm #276640Bennitos, What is SEF …. Search engine files ? I’v never heard that term. Oh, by the way, I’m on a MAC computer.
Thanks for your help on this guys.

October 23, 2008 at 9:53 am #276692It stands for search friendly url’s you can set it under server configuration settings.
Dont have a joomla install at hand atm so cant tell you exact where it stands.
October 23, 2008 at 12:00 pm #276700Bennitos thanks for your patience on this, however, I’m sure I havent played with that SEF function because I dont even know where that is. I dont even know where my server configuration settings are.
My server is through Rochen. I have this thing called CPanel. But I only used it to get the site up. Should I be using that ?
What I’m doing now is when I transfer files to the server its through (transmit) and I just ftp the files to the folder.
Thanks

October 23, 2008 at 12:42 pm #276705Make sure there are only .jpeg files in the folder you use for your slideshow.
Does it always get stuck on the same pic?
Do you have a live URL?
October 24, 2008 at 12:34 am #276759I think I only have JPG’s in that folder. I’m on a MAC so its not showing any other folders. THen again Im viewing them through the FTP program (transmit). Yes my site is live, but its not truly running. I have no
products yet. So working with it isnt an issue.scotty Friendscotty

October 24, 2008 at 8:28 am #276818Have you tested on another browser like Internet Explorer or Firefox to see if the problem is specific to your browser?
Try deleteing the pic it’s getting stuck on and if that doesn’t wrok try the one after it.
Is there a setting in Slideshow to just play through the slidshow once and then stop? could you have inadvertently enabled this?
can you post the URL so I can have a look at the propblem? Or PM me if you don;t want to post URL?
October 24, 2008 at 10:47 am #276851No its happening on other browsers as well. I deleted all the JPEGS, replaced with template original JPEGS and its still reacting weird on the 4th image. Additionally the menu pages to the left used to work fine. Now they wont come up when clicked. Is there some sort of refresh button, what about cleaning up some cache ? Does that kinda refresh the code ?

Thanks for your help people.

October 24, 2008 at 11:11 am #276856hi again,
In the admin backend of your site go to TOOLS>CLEAN CACHE.
Your slideshow is calling up an image img-5.jpg but there is no such file in your folder. On my FF (in windows) it doesn’t pause it just shows img-4.jpg for twice as long then a broken image link flicks up and it goes to img-1.jpg.
The quickest and easiest way to fix this would be just to add a img-5.jpg file if clearing your cache doesn’t help.
To clear your browser cache for your site go to the webpage and hold CTRL (or the MAC equivelent) and click Refresh.
The links you have set up on the left are category blog layout links. I think this is not the type you intended? I think you’re confusing categories in Joomla and categories in Virtumart?
