Came across this on the Joomla dev site.

The USA is in the the lead, with the Netherlands in close second. The UK, & Germany are neck and neck, and Canada and Switzerland are brining up the rear.

79 donatations from the top contribting country in a full year is pretty pathetic…but then again they don’t reall push the boat out when asking for donations do they.
But knowing how people are, most of them would spend more time complaining about the free service and would never think of thanking anyone.

and thats a good look for you Bill

LOL sounds like the JA forum.

I changed the avatar after reading the post from the guy complaining about not being able to plagiarize the JA templates, I’ll change it again when I cool down. 😉

Is there any other way to say thanks to someone then giving money?!
What if I don’t have money for donations?

But complaning about something what comes free, it a reason for becoming mad.

But reasonable complaing about something that you pay for, it’s a reason to think twice when you give money next time.

Hi,
The post I got mad over was the one about the guy complaining that he couldn’t use the words designed by > Insert his name here <
He did not design the template period.

Even if he modified it extensivly he still could not claim design rights because Joomlart designed the template.

What he is complaining about is that he got caught plagiarizing and is too stuborn (or stupid) to back down.

I get bullshit when someone steals my original content and claims it as their own. It sometimes takes me a couple of hours to research and write an article, or make a graphic, etc. (And I have found my content being plagiarized).

I rarely get mad about the complaining in this forum over the perceived or in some cases real lack of support, but I do get mad about the complainers who don’t even try to solve thier problem on thier own before complaining.

All those people want is someone to change thier diapers for them.

Joomla makes it easy for any dummy to slap a complete website up on the web and call themself a webmaster, but it takes much more learning and experience to actually be a webmaster.

It is not difficult to decipher who is just complaining and who is a newbie looking for help. The people who ask nicely and follow the rules get help, the complainers get flamed.

Yes there is legitimate complaining here, but there are channels to be taken before jumping right in with a go to RT because they are better post, etc.

Instead of complaints, those people should try some of the suggestions posted below.

Enough ranting, on to your answer.

Yes there are ways to donate without giving money even if you don’t know how to code.
If you find a bug that you know is a joomla bug, you can donate your time by submitting a bug report
Or you could help write Joomla documentation,
Or how about testing new extensions and writing a review over at Joomla.org,
Or beta test the next version of Joomla and submit reports,
Or even by helping out around this forum when you see a post that you know how to solve.
Donating to Joomla is much more than money, it is a spirit of helping to make the program better through coloabaration and community.
The core people who make Joomla happen aren’t doing it for the money, they are doing it to make a diffrence.
By donating your time you will be heping make a diffrence too.
I don’t have any money either, but I do some of the thing I listed above so that Joomla will live on and grow.

That’s the spirit.

I must admit, that I was one of complainers, and some of your post opened my eyes and mind. Now, I am trying to do as much as I can to JA community.

Beside, I do not participate too much in Joomla Com, maybe few translations to my language and some reviews, nothing big. I am still learning Joomla, and CSS and coding…

That’s great tempusserbia!

I am glad you changed your attitude and decided to help out. That is what makes Joomla so special.

You say you are doing nothing big with what you have done so far, but if nobody did those little things nothing would get done & joomla would be a dead project.

The more you use Joomla and web technologies the better you will get at doing what you need to do & the more you will be able to help those who are stuck on something (including yourself).

Thanks again for making a diffrence. 🙂
